You all know that is Scenergy
one of the detainees projects
stage. So this interview was conducted in
August 1997. Almost two years!
But do not worry, we finally learn
the truth about Raxxla;]
David Brabo fans Spectrum
Game is known for having one of the
two authors of the great Elite, but it amizhniki
remembered for not less than exciting
continuation of this game: Frontier.
David also wrote the original Brabo
toy Virus, and he recently created his own
own company, Frontier Developments
Ltd. Now his company is probably already
has released some new games, but still
PC does not interest us?
Interview with David Brabenom.
(?) When and how did you meet
computers, and how is it that you
to focus on creating games?
I became interested in computers when I
was 17. It was sometime in 1981.
I started on the Acorn Atom.
(?) What was your first big game
project?
"Elite". The game was launched in 1982, and
released in 1984 on a computer BBC Micro.
(?) "Elite" was a revolutionary new game
market for eight-bit programs. As you
think that gave her such a success?
It is very different from other games of
time, and besides, she was
apparently, the first 3D game.
(?) What prompted you to about 10
years to continue the idea of "Elite" Game
"Frontier" on the Amiga / PC / ST?
"Frontier" was created for very long (five to
half years), so that, in fact, he
was launched just five years after
"Elite". The gap filled
numerous versions of "Elite". In addition,
I also created the game "Lander", "Zarch" and
"Virus".
(?) Why "Frontier" was not released on
Speccy?
In fact, Spectrum is simply not
was able to accomplish all of that amount
work that is necessary to "Frontier".
In particular, he could not keep such
amount of data. Had
use all kinds of tricks, even
in order to create this game for the ST and
Amiga.
(?) What do you prefer, Amiga or PC?
Amiga was better than the PC at the time, but
Now she was left far behind. Sadly
admit it, but now I prefer the PC.
(?) What are your plans for the future and will
ever even released clones "Elite"?
I do not quite understand what you
meant by the term "clone
"Elite" ". In" Frontier "was a huge
number of innovations compared to the "Elite"
- Very funny that many people
remember things that exist in
"Frontier", believing that they are in
"Elite". I believe the future will
continuation of a series of "Elite" - "Frontier" -
"First Encounters", but now I
arguing with Gametek about the problems with the "First
Encounters ".
(?) A couple of years ago, when on the Spectrum
was a big fuss about "Elite",
Some magazines wrote that in "Elite"
there is a secret planet Raxxla. Is this true?
None.
(?) What other secrets can be found in
old, eight-bit versions of the "Elite"?
There were a variety of missions, secret
ship "Constrictor", in some versions
You can find "Stone Hermits.
(?) What now does your friend and co-
"Elite" Ian Bell?
I do not know what he was doing.
(?) What is your opinion about the future of gaming, and
also about the future of the Amiga and PC?
In PC an exciting future. About
the future of the Amiga, I'm not sure. I hope that
Gateway does not use it simply as a brand
name for the graphics card or something
yet.
Thinks David Brabo. Crying
reality forced him to sit at the PC, although
amiga and close to his heart. A speccy? He also
better and amiga, and PC, is not it?
In one of the following numbers we
try to learn more and take
interviews with his co-author - Ian Bell.
