Zx+Hayes glitches

Hello, All !
Recently, a friend of mine had a problem with his modem: everything works well,
until it comes to downloading files (downloading works fine). So
it is possible to download
only uncompressed files (UUE, text), but with compressed ones the whole thing slows down after
the first block - it either keeps trying to
download, or shuts up immediately after the first attempt.
Melon1.80 (1.79) is used.
Before this, everything worked, the cause and time of the glitch are unknown.
The modem is working - I tested it - it worked, but not just in case it is USR
