ATTENTION!
The ZX Box project was created on 05/03/01. !THE PROJECT NEEDS A NEW ADMIN! Anyone
who wants to take on this project, write to the address at the bottom of the page.

/* We are launching Spectrums on the Internet!*/
The ZX Box project involves the concentration of efforts of everyone who wants
to access the Network from their own or other people's Spectrums, or wants others to do this. The project is designed mainly for the ZX Spectrum 48K, although
everything should work on later models. Hardware modifications
should be kept to a minimum. This project is available along with the source
code for everyone, without any restrictions.
Anyone who has a desire to join or can help with advice, or
just wants to ask – write, join.

why()
{
By now ZX Spectrum 48K – very cheap
computer. For example, in St. Petersburg, on the radio market, a 48K model can easily be purchased for 50 rubles, or probably cheaper. In addition, a huge fleet of these computers is gathering dust on the shelves. Spectrum can become a cheap
(for some - free) hardware base for accessing the Network.
Spectrum – there is a small box that connectsto a TV, and powered only by a low-power 5V power source.
Understanding the use/operation principle of the Spectrum is much easier
than understanding a PC. Spectrum can be a convenient way to access the
Net. For many... For example, different modem options, RS-232 implementation, TCP/IP stack, PPP, people even write a browser. The point
then is to put everything together and bring it to a common denominator.
I propose the following plan of work and coordination of what has been done:
1. The simplest of all possible implementations of RS-232 (later
you can even figure out how to connect an ISA Ethernet card). A standard external modem can be connected to
RS-232. 2400/9600 may be quite sufficient. To begin with.
2. There are already written terminals, on their basis you can create
a dialer that understands PAP/CHAP.
3. Then you need to collectively debug the work of TCP/IP and PPP so that
everything invented can work for anyone who wants it. It would be nice to implement SLIP via a null modem (then you can use another computer, for example a PC, as a gateway to the Network).
4. Next come user programs. Let's start, on mylook
better with FTP. There is an idea to download (and store) programs directly from the Internet. For Spectrum, this can be very convenient, since the programs are
small, and there are more than enough free hosting services.
All of the above, of course, is in no way a guide to
action, but an invitation to discussion.

I wonder who it is in reality?
