Question for Scorpio people

ZXNet echo conference «real.speccy»

From Vsevolod Potapov To All 11 October 1999

Greetings, _All_!

Could you please confirm, dear Scorpio people, how memory mapping works in
Scorpio.

that is, how to set RAM8 to #0000, if at all possible, and what is the difference between
setting RAM0 to the same space.
Now a similar question - what is put in #0000 when bits 0 and 1 are turned on?
Which one is more important? the one that connects ROM or RAM?

the scorp manual doesn’t explain this at all

Subject: Memory mapping in Scorpion

Hello,

someone sent me a bug report about memory mapping and
I don't know which behavior is right. I had a look
at your FAQ and still not clear.

Do the following:

OUT #7FFD,#1F
OUT #1FFD,#11

in R80 after both OUT, page at #0000 is RAM8 but
who sent the bug report says that monitor shows that is
is RAM0 and he thinks it should be RAM0. According
to the FAQ, you say that if bit0 of #1FFD is 1, then
RAM 0 is mapped in #0000. Later in the memory layout
you say that in #0000it can be RAM0 and RAM8
(plus ROMs), so I supposed that mapping RAM0 or RAM8
in #0000 depends on bit4 of #1FFD, like RAM pages
at #C000.

by the way, first OUT is not important for the mapping
of #0000 :).

something about the same. Which bit is more
prioritary in #1FFD, 0 or 1. The same question
in another way, if bit 0 and bit 1 of #1FFD is
1, what I have to map, RAM0/8 or monitor ROM.

bye,

Ra·l

RAM of course.

Imho, only the 0th bank is always set. You can even write a small test to check:

1. throw 0 at #t000
2 into the 0th number. We throw 8 into the 8th number in the same place
3. set #11 or #13 in #1ffd and see that by #0000

If this causes difficulties on a _real_ scorpion...

Regarding the priorities of bit0, bit1, imho, ram has a higher priority,
again, you can check with the same test, only slightly
modified.

ps/ as far as I know, you have a real scorpion, and your
favorite assembler - xas.

+-Good luck, Vsevolod!

well, this is what I can think of, I just don’t have the time for it right now. can anyone
help? maybe someone knows for sure? Maybe? ;). your

and my favorite free time is zero :(

help the person, otherwise you’ll have to find out for yourself :)

I already wrote - the can is only 0, the rum always overlaps with the rum.
