Question about BIOS support

ZXNet echo conference «real.speccy»

From Roman Petrov To All 15 August 1998

Hello! Dear All!

So, the following question arose:
Are there people here who can really help in replenishing the library
of drivers for the BIOS? It’s just that in our city it’s impossible to find some devices that may be needed during work. So, for example, in our city there is not a single person who has connected a hard drive to a Specky, but a driver is needed.
There are no people with printers, but the thing is needed. So far, only two people are going to install CMOS (the first is me, the second is one of our hardware guys).
Well, okay, I’ll write a CMOS driver (there is a module for the emulator), but with the printer and hard drive it’s a bummer. Therefore, if there are people who can
write these drivers, please respond!
Yes, who here can no less realistically support the BIOS with software? I would like
to hope for X-Project, for the adaptation of network software into the BIOS environment. And also
on other systems specialists. In general, in any case - write! If there is no answer
to the soap, then write to the echo (I hope the moderator doesn’t mind)!

With respect, Roman aka Megus of Brainwave Tracks.

I can help with writing a driver for the printer; in general, all questions about writing a
driver, please kindly

What with soap?
Information on writing drivers can be found here. It will come in handy.
Maybe I’ll do something small.

But with a printer it’s not an easy task. After all, there are a million connection diagrams and
as many different printers. Look how many of them there are under investigation! Here you need to throw some kind of source sample here, and everyone will edit it for their own printer... IMHO

All the best.
Roman.

When there is something to adapt for, then of course... Where will we escape from
a submarine :)

P.S. How are you?

It’s probably none of your business!

We’re all happy...

Keep your IMHO with you...

You first tell me what functions are needed for the printer driver (and at the same time
for the CMOS driver), then I will give you a standard, and then someone
will write a driver and give its sources to the echo. Well, then everyone will configure it for their own printer and send me the source code. You will get a good library of
drivers, and the authors will be mentioned in Credits ;-)

Exactly, but who knows ;-) Okay, they’ll give me a full-fledged low-level
driver for working with the disk, then the work will continue, otherwise for now it’s just glitches
I’ll edit and write the drivers left.

AB> P.S. How are you doing?
As always, the best ;-) Business is normal, work is moving!
