What about current? The VG only needs about 20 mA, then a simple converter will work. By the way, this was done in the Soviet computer MC1502. There, a low-power voltage converter is assembled on the controller board. And everything is powered
from the built-in +5 power supply. Rulez.
Well, I digress from the topic: The disk drive (one 5'25)
needs at least 0.5-1.0 A of current. Here you will have to sculpt a cool converter. This is not beneficial IMHO. It's easier to create a BP with +12.
And here’s what I think is the best thing to do: build a
simple converter for the VG on the board, let it power itself from
it. If, say, a computer with a 3'5 flop works,
then the entire structure is powered only from +5.
If there is also a 5'25 flop, then, no matter how you look at it,
you need a powerful +12V source. And at the same time, you can power the VG'shka
from these 12, and turn off the converter
so that it does not create interference. This is how it was done in Orion, in my opinion. But you can leave it on your family 12 -
they are more stable, IMHO, they will be.
With the best vicheise, Sergey Orlov.

A guy once told me (the teacher of a computer assembly class) that
you can turn off the VG with just a touch of your hand. Like there's static electricity and all that. He says five VG'sheks have already been cut down in this way.
Well, BYE'yushki to you, Wladimir!

But no, usually the “thing” is made low-power - one transistor, several
diodes, connectors... - only for powering the VGshka.
All the best.
Sincerely, Roman.

In theory, yes, in practice, neither I nor any of my friends have ever
seen anything like this.

They simply crash, and not only VG-shki.
For example, a buyer comes to the market in the frosty winter. Everyone is wearing fur coats.
He rubbed himself and rubbed himself in the crowd, then he came up to the seller: “I want a VG-shku!” He hands it over,
holding it at one end by the legs, the buyer takes it from the other end... (It would be nice to say hello by the hand first! :) Then he pays, takes it home... But the VG-shka is already
dead.
Right now even CMOS micros don’t die from small static voltages (there is protection
provided for). But a strong charge is dangerous.
