Пpоект Art Works бал начат весной 97-го года и должен был включать в себя
пакет пpогpамм для pаботы с гpафикой на Спектpуме.
Основной частью пакета, естественно, должен был являться гpафический pедактоp
Artwork. Редактоp изначально задумывался для компьютеpов с объемом памяти не
менее 128k, что позволяло использованиеoverlay structure, i.e.
use of loadable modules. In theory, the editor is a program expandable to any
level.
In addition to the graphic editor, it was planned to create a program for fast,
convenient and high-quality execution of text documents with the subsequent
connection of a “viewer” (ideal for doing electronic work). publications) with
a good, friendly interface (which everyone lacks), support for music and
other advantages.
The entire package of programs was supposed to make the work of spectrum artists,
designers and publishers of electronic newspapers and magazines easier.
During the first year (at the end which the number of BYTEX Group programmers
increased by two people) the project developed at a good pace and quite
successfully - by the spring of 1998 a more or less workable version of the editor was written. At the very beginning of the year, collaboration began (more precisely, not collaboration, but some kind of exchange of experience) with the Avalon group, who at that time were also developing a graphic editor (State Of The Art).
But their project at that time was in a much worse state, and they understood it. Therefore, they decided to suspend work on the project and conduct only an exchange of experience for the purpose of developing Artwork. Without e-mail, as it turned out, doing this was quiteproblematic.
At the end of spring 98, it became clear that the main forces on both sides were rushing to write works for FunTop'98. As a result, communication with the Avalon group was interrupted, and again only two people worked on the editor (even a little
less, but this is not so important). Current versions are not distributed to
avoid causing harm to anyone. In the fall of 1998, BYTEX Group lost access to Fido and the Internet. Naturally, all inspiration is lost, inspired, it seemed, by communication with some interested people.
In the spring of 1999, BYTEX Group again has access to Fido and the Internet.
Officially, there are still four people in the group. In reality -
one. It is unthinkable to continue such a voluminous project (which has remained practically unchanged for more than six months) alone, so it was decided to transfer the project to a “public” state, when anyone can take part in the creation of the package. For this purpose, an automated server is created that sends, upon request, the current version of any part of the package, technical documentation or source text. The project is no longer commercial.
So, from now on you have the opportunity to take part in the development of a
graphical editor for the ZX Spectrum. The full list of project participants
will be published with the releaseeach version of the program. New versions
are distributed through electronic media. No payment may be charged by anyone for distribution. The developers
do not bear any responsibility for damage directly or indirectly caused to the user by the program.
To receive information about the current state of the mailing server, write a letter
to the address 2:469/150.11@Fidonet in the name "Art Works" (without quotes), and instead of the subject
of the letter, write "%INFO" (also without quotes). The body of the letter must be empty,
the letter must contain the line "* Origin". After this, you will learn
how to obtain the current version of the project and all the necessary funds to participate in
development.
