Greetings, All!

People, please help!!!
Such a problem: there is a scorpion (turbo+) and a subject with a screw. Until recently everything
was working fine. Not so long ago, glitches began: periodically, during
work,
the computer stopped seeing the screw, i.e. I completely cut off the appeal to him (I judged by the appeal indicator). At first, all this was treated by turning off the power and turning it on again - everything got better. This happened more and more often and finally
- now the subject does not see the screw at all. An initial test takes place, the subject is determined, it tests the screw, thinks for a long time and displays: Hard disk not found.
(the same thing happens if the cable is connected to the screw and the subject, but power is not supplied to the screw). The shadow test shows the same thing.
At the same time: you can enter the shadow, the subject itself works without problems (cmos, nvram).
I took another, known-to-be-good screw - no changes. Similarly with the
loop. I took it to another known-good computer (the same as mine) -
no results.

Consequently, we can conclude that:
- the computer’s board is working
- the screw is working
- the cable is working

Yes, I forgot one “but”: everything happens as I described if the controller of the PC keyboard and mouse is also
inserted into the “Christmas tree”. If you turn on only the subject without other
boards (more specifically, without a controller): the screw is also not detected, but in the shadow there is a glitch:
cursorThere is no mouse/joystick, the yellow cursor flickers (as if the left
mouse key is stuck), you can navigate through the menus and switch options. This has never happened before, i.e. when only one subject was included in the slot, no such glitches were observed.

And I would really like to know what is the matter and how to treat it?
What could have gone wrong in the subject?

I beg you, don’t let another realist die! I can’t live without the screw, now
the three-flop has crashed, I can’t even read Fido properly!

With best wishes, Alexander Vlasov.

VK> ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ in what sense is this? Did the screw work on another computer or
VK> not?

In the sense that the screw and smuk don’t want to work on another computer either (the same
trouble). And I tried another screw. And the cable changed. And all to no avail - he doesn’t see the screw and that’s it. The most interesting thing is that this glitch appeared gradually...
Now I don’t know what to do. Without a propeller, I'm as if I'm out of hands, and going to St. Petersburg for a new smuk (considering its price plus travel) is a bit expensive...

Perhaps there are at least some ideas on this issue? I know how to hold a soldering iron in my hands.

AV>. I can advise you to check the ports/buffers of the smuk, for this you will need a diagram of the smuk and a description of the connector ide (take it from the 7th ZX format or something...). You connect an 8-bit register and a port decoder to the ide bus, then one by one you connect the outputs of the decoder to the register and use a light bulb tester to see what is at the outputs, naturally you need to write the appropriate program. After this operation
you hang the register on the upper 8 bits of the bus, and check the entry to the data port. It’s also
a good idea to check the ports for reading, for this you put ap6 or ir22 or something like that on the ide bus on the contrary and send signals to the inputs, and read and
compare the computer, well, I think you’ll figure it out yourself...

Ahh.... Is there anything simpler you can do to check the smack? I
meant that I know how to hold a soldering iron in my hands, and I don’t have a great understanding of hardware :)

heh;) well, try to test the software yourself: cut the screw and try to write and
read data in the information registers (number of sectors, cyl high, cyl low,
sector) if everything is ok, then try the command diagnostics...
