Rules for discussion

ZXNet echo conference «real.speccy»

From Vlad Sotnikov To All 3 November 2005

Hello, All!

I propose for discussion and revision of the conference rules. I took as a basis the rules of the previous moderator (from 2003). Dima Bystrov's comments
regarding the UUE code have already been included.

PS. REC application has already been submitted.

│Rules of Echoconference REAL.SPECCY │
│ date of last edition 03.11.2005 │
└─────────────────────────────── ─────────────────────────┘

using real Spectrum-compatible computers (although, in principle,
anyone who will comply with these rules can participate in the correspondence).

if it is related to the features of the software and hardware being discussed); also
it is prohibited to compare platforms with each other, as well as to criticize them [*].
Discussion of emulators is unacceptable, this is an echo for the _real_ Spectrum [*].

2. Clashes between different modifications of
Spectrum-compatible computers are extremely undesirable (please respect the creators and
users of all types of our beloved Specky) [*].

3. Excessive quoting is punished (more than 70%) [*], try
to leave those phrases that youto your opinion you give an answer or
comment.

4. A little advertising is allowed, a forward from other interesting, in
your opinion, information.

5. Files placed in the echo conference must be only in
UUE encoding and meet the standards of one of the following categories:

PC (*.zip or *.rar - with a 64K dictionary), the archive must
have a description of the contents in a text file (it is advisable that
this file have the standard name file_id.diz, descript.ion or read_me).

Please do not send to the echo conference files that have
in their name characters that contradict the operating system standards
IS-DOS, MS-DOS (.+,"=, etc.)

It is allowed to post UUE-encoded files in the amount of no more than

disrespect for copyright, etc.) are strictly prohibited [+]. It is also unacceptable to post hacked author's (officially distributed) works in the echo - such an action will be punished with all severity!

9. As in ZX.SPECTRUM - the use of pseudonyms
in the From/To field is not allowed (let's not start a kindergarten, from "cool hackers"
it's already a dazzle in the eyes). The exception is Moderator/CoModerator :).

10. Language of communication - Russian, Ukrainian, English. Try not to complicate the lives of others, write more clearly, if possible competently, correct the mistakes of others correctly and, if possible, by netmail.

11. The moderator is responsible for the conference; comoderators are appointed by the moderator as needed (if
it arises). The echo conference rules are published every two weeks. In the event of a moderator's disappearance for a period exceeding two

13. Penalties standard:

[*] - warning;
[*] [*] [*] = [+] - transfer to Ridonli for a month;
[+] [+] [+] = [!] - disconnection from echo for a long period! :( .

, having “long” names (not corresponding to the “8.3” standard), as well as
having symbols of national alphabets in their names.
(Formulate “competently” ;-) ).

VS> 9. As in ZX.SPECTRUM -

You need to remove this phrase. Otherwise, it turns out that the conference indirectly depends
on ZX.SPECTRUM and is subordinate to it.

VS> (let's not start a kindergarten, from "cool hackers"
VS> already dazzles in the eyes).

This explanation is no longer relevant :), everyone has grown up long ago.
You can leave the beginning of the phrase and its end:

VS> The exception is Moderator/CoModerator :).

VS> 10. Language of communication - Russian, Ukrainian, English.

:-), this is a direct legacy of the Ukrainian moderator :) We need to think about how not to offend, for example, Belarusians, and at the same time not incite ethnic hatred. Maybe write: “The language of communication is predominantly Russian;
use is allowed.English and other languages, if the sender
is firmly confident that his messages will be understandable to the participants and
moderating staff of the conference and will not cause conflicts in the software."
This is offhand. We have to think.

I think we should remove "if possible." - netmail" (c) ? :)

VS> (will
VS> one arise).

:), again the legacy of the Ukrainian moderator :) .

WB> This is offhand. You have to think.

You don’t have to think anything. If someone writes a letter, say, in Icelandic, then no one will understand it and that’s it. And in Russian, accordingly, the majority
will understand. Those. such a ban does not solve any problems, well, except perhaps
the task of giving the moderator the opportunity to have fun once again with [+] and so on.

And software problems, sorry, should in no case become problems
for everyone. Whoever has crooked software - let him have problems from it himself!

I propose to immediately prohibit writing in the echo not from real life, as well as to those who have
email and who use the Internet. For here, just let there be realists without internet, whose all aspirations relate to specs! =)

VS> We kindly ask you not to send files to the echo conference that have symbols in

Announce the standards for us, the orphans and the poor, who long ago forgot
horrors 8+3 and other long~1 names! =))

Exceeded by 1 byte - and that’s it, [!]. to
several SCLs and post them separately. This will not reduce the traffic in the echo,
but people will have more problems (at the mercy of the moderators) (gluing it all together
into 1 TRD).

VS> 6. Personal correspondence is prohibited! [*]

Please give me the definition of personal correspondence. So as not to inadvertently violate.

That is, conversations, for example, about fixing bugs in bourgeois games or about
restoring a program from a protected half-dead disk (not readable, say
protection) - are prohibited?

VA> UKRAINIAN? Why, say, not Arabic or not Chinese?

Legacy of a Ukrainian moderator :) I will indicate in the rules the option proposed by
Wlodek.

VA> If a person wrote an obvious gon (for example, he gave a diagram of a curve, which
VA> will burn the entire spec for the one who collected it), then correct it with netmail? So that,
VA> God forbid, no one finds out that he posted the rut?

The point is not in the rut and not in the given diagrams. Again, this line in the rules is a warning against provocation. I remember as soon as
ZXNET appeared, it allowed communication in Russian and English
languages according to the fidosh standard. I (a philology student) was delighted and wrote a huge letter in English
with very specific questions. The conference participants were 15-17 years old at that time.
Naturally, no one understood anything. But the English language was removed from the rules :)))

What prevents you from writing a letter to someone in Esperanto if the languages are not stipulated in the rules? We're not having a linguistic conference, are we?

In ZX.SPECTRUM several years ago there was already a precedent when someone wrote
in English and, as it turned out, called everyone p*ss*rs. This only became clear
when Vsevolod Potapov (Random) saw these messages and translated them for everyone.
Only then the moderator was able to come to his senses.

VA> And software problems, sorry, should in no case become
VA> problems for everyone. Whoever has crooked software - let him have problems from this HIMSELF!

Not crooked, but the lack of a set of characters of a specific national alphabet
(the well-known problem of umlauts, usually called “krakozyabrs”).

2Vlad: please, think, if you don’t mind, about the correct wording of this
point.

VS> You know, using the real Spectrum, these standards are very

So we write to Fido from PC or from real life, right? =) For PC this is not relevant.

VS> Naturally, this is very conditional. Theoretically, actions should be punished when a very large file is “hidden”. On the other

VS> size can become a reason for provocation.

I don’t understand, even if they post gigabytes, there is a limit of 64kb per day?
What’s the problem? Why create unnecessary problems for those who, for example,
would like to post a jam-packed traffic jam? After all, he will shift the problems onto others, breaking him into squabbles. As a result, we have that under
the slogan of protection from mythical provocations, problems are created for the wrong reasons.

From Vadik Akimoff To All 4 November 2005

VA>> YOURSELF!

WB> Not a curve, but the absence of a set of characters of a specific national
WB> alphabet (the well-known problem of umlauts, usually called
WB> "krakozyabrs").

What is the problem? You write in umlauts, knowing that they will read it in 866 encoding.
Accordingly, if they don’t understand you, or don’t understand where the umlauts are, that’s your
problem.

WB> 2Vlad: please, think, if you don’t mind, about the competent wording
WB> of this point.

Give me bureaucracy! So as not to dig in!
