ZXNet echo conference «real.speccy»

From Andreas Kaiser To All 9 May 2000

In general, the promised subject. For some reason, when I threw it from home, the gate didn’t let me through.
I’ll try this, maybe it won’t work again. Then I'll send it to one of you and
you will post.

It reached the echo. HO! Larka swears - error in UUE :-(...

I see :( Maybe some of you can throw it at me and then post it?
The damned gate doesn’t work well, damn it! If not, I can throw it again.
By the way, did you change the number 6 to the letter b in the word begin in the first section? If
no, try changing it. This is a necessary “resistance” to the gate.

Hmm, it helped though :). It is necessary to warn ;).

Serial port for Spectruma!!!

Description of an improvement that will allow you to connect to your computer any external device designed for a serial port. For example - a mouse, modem or printer. You can order a ready-made port board or software from me by calling the phone number given at the end of the article or writing to the addresses indicated there. So, the schematic diagram:

Addresses controller ports:

#80F7, #81F7, #82F7, #83F7 - timer ports
#90F7, #91F7 - COM1 interface ports

When working with the port, you must first program the timer for the frequency division mode (mode 3). In this case, it is necessary to ensure that the resulting frequency does not go beyond the permissible values (the maximum frequency at the RxC/TxC inputs of the USART according to the passport is 615 KHz).

The type of connector used is DB-25P (standard connector of an external modem). For those who don’t know, DB-25P means a
male or male connector.

To connect COM2 you need to use 3 chips
(BB51, UP2, AP2). To inputs 9 and 25 of USARTInstead of the FR1 signal, it is necessary to apply the FR2 signal from the timer, and to input 11 the signal from the 13
output ID7. The TxD signal must use the free
half of D5.

Now a little history...

It all started when a guy came to me with two 174UH4A boards, which we hooked up to the tape recorder port. Before this, there were a couple of articles in magazines and a connection diagram for some kind of gadget ordered from some cooperative, called “Modem
for ZX.”

Of course, nothing worked out for us, but the fact itself was enough for a long time. Afterwards there were several schemes that I saw, but due to
the lack of software and experience in programming, they were left without
attention. But in vain - there were some very good solutions there.

Then a short break followed, during which I tried to use pieces of AON circuits, but there were no results.
Then a modem circuit appeared in the magazine "Spectrofon", for playing
Steward using a modem. At the same time, we finally hooked up with Sinclairto
AOHu. And as a result, I had the Spectrofon version, and my friend had the AON version. We found a program for Tape Modem and things went in full swing. We spoke for the first time using a computer, and not just any computer, but a Speccy. We downloaded files, albeit at a speed of
1800 baud, but then it was very cool. I still remember when we were broadcasting Satisfaction, ZX-FORMAT'1... I even tried to write software for this type of modem, but in the end I realized that it didn't have any special prospects.

The idea of communicating with pussies and at
higher speed became more and more attractive. So a standard had to be chosen, and that standard was HAYES. Therefore, I began to work in this direction, read literature, asked people, and in the summer of 96 I got my first modem - Faylin 1200 without protocols. Nowadays this is of course funny (for Kharkov), but for reference it was not entirely bad, even very good. And so I began developing an interface for connecting the modem, fortunately by this time I had become relatively good at understanding electronics. And finally everything was assembled and turned on and, as always, nothing worked the first time.

After wasting two days, everything worked so well that I was even surprised how it could not have worked before. This significant date
is September 7, 1996.

In the evening of the same day Ifor the first time I contacted the pisish BBC and everything that I had read and heard about the BBC suddenly appeared before my eyes, and, as they say, I felt the steepness of the phenomenon. At this time I was using some kind of terminal written under BB51, but I doubt that the author wrote it for a really working modem, since there were several glitches with which it was absolutely impossible to work with. I corrected it, improved it a little, added exchange protocols
and thoroughly enjoyed my work. But the question arose about improving the quality, and here the graphics expansion scheme to 512x192 mode came in handy. It was a real thrill to work, especially when I saw the BBS screensavers in 85 characters per line mode, that is, without breaking lines - as it SHOULD BE. After that I added
ANSI support, the YMODEM protocol, a bunch of modes and I still use it to this day.

Also, an interface scheme has now been developed that provides
connection of any ISA card to a sinclair, that is, a multi-
modem, an internal modem, etc. It is also absolutely easy to connect a screw, a mouse, or normal flops. Also, at the time when I just released the diagram of my interface to me, it became known about another
Kharkov development, which is really not worth attention at all
at least for the fact that the modem ports are accessible using the #FFFD mask. This
development was notorious under the name"Shepelevskaya
scheme"...

Come again...
