RS-232 STANDART interface

ZXNet echo conference «real.speccy»

From Boris Krasnoperov To All 4 June 2001

Hello All!

Share, please, a more or less STANDARD circuit
of the RS-232 port (for example, the one through which your fidosh software works).
Somehow I flew by here a circuit for 580ВВ51 and 580VI53 from someone VICa.....
The port addresses are there:
#80F7, #81F7, #82F7, #83F7 - 580VI53
#90F7, #91F7 - 580ВВ51
Interrupts are not used.

Is this a standard scheme? If not, please provide a diagram
with which the fidosh software works.

as far as I remember, this circuit was published online and its origin comes from
pro (upper boards of versions 4 and 5)
BK> Port addresses there:
BK> #80F7, #81F7, #82F7, #83F7 - 580VI53

I don’t know about addresses, for BB51 it’s better to put #FXBF, where X=0..7,
then it will be like Kondratiev’s scheme
BK> Is this a standard scheme? If not, please create the circuit

the fidosh software will not work right away, for this circuit you will need to
program the VI53 timer. IMHO there are no more circuits, but no one seriously considers what is in Scorp and the Pentagon to be rs232.

And rightly so. There is absolutely no rs232. The internal modem itself handles rs232 emulation.
Good bye.

SK> And rightly so. There is absolutely no rs232. Emulation of rs232 is carried out
SK> by the internal modem itself.

rs232 is a physical interface for serial bit transmission.
And how it will be implemented is not fundamentally important. For example, in
my Spectrum at a speed of 38400 bits are caught by the main processor,
and when the processor is busy with other tasks, the thread is blocked by the RTS signal.
This whole thing works quite successfully. I have a Spectrum motherboard type
'yellow scorpion'.

The internal modem has nothing to do with PC232 at all, it emulates
a 16550A type serial port writing chip.

A person asked for a circuit diagram for implementing rs-232 _in the Spectrum_. I explained that due to
the use of internal modems, rs-232
in a separate version is not needed. In your opinion, am I wrong?

KF> The internal modem has nothing to do with PC232 at all

It emulates the functions of this chip, not the hardware. And the subject is this function.

Good bye.
