Release of ROM with 1818VG93 emulator!

ZXNet echo conference «real.speccy»

From Maxim Timonin To All 22 July 2005

Hi All,

07/22/2005.

This day will go down in history... Today, June 22, 1941, at 4 o'clock in the morning...
Ugh! Today, July 22, 2005, well, not at 4 am, of course, but a little later
(about 7-8 am, after a sleepless night) one of the longest, but at the same time the most promising, ambitious and expected
projects on ATM, and maybe (let others decide) on Spectrum in general, was completed. The eXtra BIOS firmware for ATM-turbo 2+ was
completed, containing the long
advertised 1818VG93 emulator, software interception of access to memory ports (for the first time on Spec there is a semblance of a protected mode!), support for working with
external modules and much, much more.

The firmware was made in the form of two modifications -
xBIOS v.1.32LE (Light Edition) - lightweight, for 64Kb ROM, for those who
do not have the opportunity to flash a larger chip. But you have to pay for everything - as a result, we get fewer features and functions, as well as the impossibility of
further expansion and improvement. The development of this version has been stopped.

xBIOS v1.32XT (eXTended) - basic, for ROM 128Kb and higher (up to 1024Kb).
A complete set of all functions, open architecture (the ability for the user
to independently add modules of his own
development to the free pages of the ROM and then work with them through the start menu). This system
will develop andfurther, but according to the principle of bottom-up compatibility.
In addition, work is now underway to transfer the VG93 emulator to the
Pentagon-1024SL (something that, naturally, can be transferred. For example, if
there is no memory manager and hidden ports there, it is
impossible to implement protected mode).

The firmware itself (both LE and XT) along with the documentation for it is located here:
http://atmturbo.narod.ru/download/s...ms/xbios132.zip

Separately a book with documentation (yes, a whole book of descriptions!)
for those who do not need the firmware itself (well, not all ATM people!) can be downloaded here:
http://atmturbo.narod.ru/inf/books/nedopc/xbiosdoc.zip

Written I have a package of utilities XUTILITIES v1.01 under xBIOS for working/launching
TRD images from a hard drive from the CP/M OS environment is here:
http://atmturbo.narod.ru/download/c...ls/xutls101.zip

Brief description for it is here:
http://atmturbo.narod.ru/download/c...tils/xutils.htm

Truth Please note that the posted book will still be updated (it is planned to redraw the illustrations more efficiently, most likely we still have to catch typos and bugs). So there will be an xBIOS update. Firmware utilities will also be
improved. And the ROM project itself is not closed at all.
We still have a lot of ideas!

In the meantime, I express my deep gratitude to Yura ukms[z] for the
titanic work done!

Two more mega-projects are also on the verge of completion:

Adaptation of the iS-DOS Chic OS for ATM-turbo 2+ and the creation on its basis
iS-DOS-compatible TASiS OS, working with the ATM text console.

I’ll tell you a secret, that these systems are already installed on my ATM hard drive,
but are not yet ready for release in the form of complete distributions.

As they say, COMING SOON...

That's all for today.
I'm waiting for responses and congratulations!
