Real Commander
ZXNet echo conference «real.speccy»
From Pawel Kislyak → To All 24 September 2000
As I wrote earlier, since work on subject 2.0 is progressing slowly,
due to the difficulties that have arisen with the organization of the modular system, I decided
to release another version of the 1.9 series in which existing
shortcomings and known glitches are corrected. If someone's subject does not work with any DOS, RamDisk, etc. write to me. The tricks like make a full-fledged
text viewer are not offered, since in version 1.9 there is no memory for this
(I mean for the ROM version). All the bells and whistles will be in version 2.0,
by the way, I would like to know All's opinion on this matter. As you
could find out from electronic publications, version 2.0 of the subject is planned
with an open architecture and a modular system. The commander himself will be
absolutely “naked”, no add-ons such as a doctor, player, viewer,
formatter. All the bells and whistles will be implemented in modules and loaded via "Autoload". Thanks to the open architecture, it will be possible
to connect to the commander a HDD driver, General S. player, etc.
I am still afraid that version 2.0 may not take root like for example
ZX-ASM 3.10 with its overlay system, especially this applies ROM version, it’s easier to press a button and get into the command with all the bells and whistles, than to wait until it loads the registered modules (although they can be loaded from RC RamDisk). Boot fromflop (with basic modules)
it should theoretically not be much longer than the junior version, since
since when loading modules there is only one access to the zero track,
and then all modules are read in a row, it would be most optimal to
place the commander at the beginning of the disk. In general, write what you think about this.
Bye!
