RAM disk in RC v2.3?

ZXNet echo conference «real.speccy»

From Sergey Cherbynin To All 6 July 2002

Greetings, All!

I recently connected a 1MB 6.7-bit port #1FFD to my Scorp, there are 53 banks available for a
RAM disk in RC, if you reserve all the banks, then everything is fine, but
if you select a smaller number of jars, then when you try to copy something
to RAM, the RC disk is hung with a green border.
What, exactly, is the matter? Is it the memory driver that is buggy or did I screw the simm crookedly?

All the best, All!
With best wishes *** Sergey *** !

It's the shadow's fault, IMHO. I can explain why.
Where are you copying from?
On Scorpa 1024 you can only load something from a screw into memory above 256 KB like this: first read somewhere in the 4000 area - BFFF, then transfer it upward.
With floppy disks there is no such restriction, you can read anywhere.
How RC does it - a question for the author.

Is there a hard drive?
If there is, then most likely it crashes when you try to copy something from/to it?
If so, then it’s not a matter of RC, or rather RC has nothing to do with it in any case, it’s a problem
of a program sitting in the depths of a shadow PROM that is completely unaware of your
intention to hang a meter on a scorpion Simm, but seriously, when accessing the
hard drive via rst8 or via #3d13, the shadow user marks the current memory page
with two bytes #AA #55 then connects the 8th page since all the variables
for working with the screw are in it, then does what he needs to write
or read the screw and after that clicks the banks, looks for those same two bytes and
having found them, leaves this page current like this as a procedure that clicks
pages is designed only for 256k, naturally in your case it will not be able to
include the desired page andthe green border will crash with an error, there is a way out
make the RC work with the screw through the ports, that is, connect the driver to it
if necessary, I can throw it.

Yes.

Why doesn’t the author of RC do this through a buffer in bank 2 or 5 with bank 0-15 turned on at the top (especially for scorpions with screws)?

All understandable.

Throw it into soap, just write how to put the driver into the RC body, in more detail!
Thank you!

This problem is perfectly solved using the HDD support module
by Alexander Tkachev.
