Working with HD disks

From Vassili Klimov To All 11 June 2001

HeLLo, Boris!

BC> If my memory serves me right, it seems in one of the issues of DejaVu, there was
BC> a diagram with programs that carry out the subject.
BC> Actually, programs are required to fully work with 1.44 floppy disks on
BC> Speccy.
BC> Who has such programs, please share.
BC> You can send it to the original. I would search on the Internet, but I don’t have
BC> full
BC> access, only e-mail.
there are 2 programs in the attachment to adventurer12, one of them is mine;)

A century of life to you, Vassili Klimov!

VK> there are 2 programs in the attachment to adventurer12, one is mine;)
Thank you.
Are there programs that allow you to copy MSDOS 1.4->TRDOS->MSDOS1.44?
If there is, tell me where.

unfortunately not;(
IMHO, the best solution is to write a plugin for RC2, but I don’t have time for this
(and I don’t really have the desire;)

that’s it. Write, write, it would be very useful for me personally.

SZ> But no way.

Yes... Scorpio people say that there is some kind of software, but they don’t
distribute it. I once heard about an _already made_ floppy disk copier for
all extended memory, but I don’t know where to get it :) Also, traces of the
ZX Terminal have been lost...
By the way, in GMX there is also an unfinished shadow box. Or rather, it is almost the same as 4.01
(only a few points were added about emulation of Pentagon, Composite and
some kind of test). No extended memory (except for the standard first 16
banks) is supported (if you press MAGIC while some top page is active, then everything will just freeze:((((For the same reason
nothing can be loaded via RST8 into the top memory), which is even more scary, the extended screen is not supported, more precisely, when you enter the shadow (not only by
MAGIC, but also according to RST8, 3d13...) the standard screen turns on, and no longer
turns off:((((I encountered this recently when writing software:) Now
you will have to access the screw directly (by the way, thank you very much to Vlad Sotnikov
for the article in ZXNews54!)
The glitch with the second screen has not yet been fixed. Its state is still
determined by the cell #5B5C, which is a pity, since the values of all 7FFD bits (and not
only) are available for reading:(
In general, my opinion: GMX is RULEZ, but the ROM for it is not completed, which very
spoils the picture:(

SZ> GMX will be given to usersas you wish. ALTHOUGH I want to strain
SZ> the scorpion guys so that they also solder everything.

What needs to be soldered there?

I wish you good luck!
Sincerely, Fyodor Odegov aka FION.

I wrote something like this once... in 97 or 98, in my opinion. do you really need it? My point is that it wouldn’t hurt to straighten it up, but it was written on Tasm4... I’ll have to drag it into the storm with wild fucking and other little joys. ;)

yeah, I read in the lower 16k and threw a crowd of ldishkas into the upper one.

Naturally :-)

FO>> traces of ZX Terminal...
VK> this is for what? just surf the bbs?

Essentially - yes, an ordinary terminal, but in an expanded screen :) Scorpionists advertised it at one time - with each parcel they came an A4 sheet about it.
It was also planned to write an OS for this program;)

VK> you will explain to me then please;), what is the purpose of
VK> GMX except for emulating temporary huts? Pentagon?

Not only Pentagon, but also Composite;) And not only temporary ones, but also ROMs:) And
in general, there are many more pleasant little things in GMX: the ability to open TR-DOS ports,
MAGIC locks, etc... Read the manual - there is a lot of interesting stuff there :)

FO> Why? After all, you can use window #8000-#BFFF, you can
FO> load whatever you want there. It doesn’t matter to the monitor that there is not a second
FO> page...

me... any memory was supported there, not only scorpion memory and not only
game memory. the copier did not have a clear sharpening for anything.
by the way, if sclerosis serves me correctly, reading this way in pst8 is much faster than
directly in the upper 16k - the lamerchanka tried with the brakes.
you can try to detect the presence of gmx and use the second window.
we'll see.

WBR, Oleg.

SZ> Does Tasma have macros?

What's the difference? he didn't have it, now he has it. The problem is that, honestly, all this crap needs to be rewritten. I'm ashamed of the code. :)

wow, I even intrigued you. will you be on ss? I drink Czech staropramen. :)

It just occurred to me that I’ll throw in here the latest version I can find from
four years ago. and you will evaluate and express your wishes for straightening, ok?

So the current configuration is available for reading on all (or only
green?) Scorpions, almost all #7ffd and one bit from #1ffd are contained in the 14th
register AY-8910/12, the bits mean the following:

║ 7 │ 6 │ 5 │ 4 │ 3 │ 2 │ 1 │ 0 ║
╟ 1 1 rom b3 scr b2 b1 b0 ╟
└───────────────────────────────┘
It’s a pity that this is still not used by the Monitor ;(
