I'm asking for help with PROFI.
ZXNet echo conference «real.speccy»
From Aleksey Tarasow → To All 13 July 2002
I once wrote in the spring about my problems, but then for a month this echo
was stuck somewhere. Now everything seems to have improved, but all messages during this time have been lost forever. The problem that I asked for help in solving has not yet been resolved. I will repeat the essence of the problem. There is PROFI v5.3/hdd
270 MB/com port/external USRobotic Sporter 14400 software
only for CP/M.
Malfunction: when entering the terminal, the carrier
is immediately detected (even if the modem is turned off); zmodem protocol does not work, xmodem works
normally; Crashes often occur when working in FIDO (the machine freezes,
sometimes the buttons seem to be stuck, different each time). Perhaps this is a glitch in the com port.
What I want: of course, to solve all the above problems. I also wanted to connect the modem using a different scheme (the com port has a maximum speed of 9600
+ for compatibility with software for tr dos and is dos). At the same time, I would like to
connect a hard drive under tr dos, CD, IBM keyboard - also in a more
standard way (I have it according to profi standards, there will be two
keyboards), shadow RAM powered by a battery, perhaps a 512*192 +
screen.... the question is still open, I have about a month to think about it. Previously
the person who will hang all this on me will not be able to work on the car.
So you can offer more bells and whistles, butthen I don’t even know what else is needed, I have the Internet only for big holidays :))).
From the messages that came last time: it seems possible another
connection of the modem only through a multicard, which can be connected
either to SMUC, or according to the Kondratieff circuit.
I heard that you can solder a connector to a connector connecting the top and
bottom boards profik, and you will get a standard KAY slot (you just need to swap the contacts there). Is this so?
It’s not clear with the multicard, you can only use the com port from it, or can you also connect a hard drive and CD? If it is also possible
to attach a hard drive to it, will tr dos and existing
programs work with it.
If anyone can, tell me what is the best thing to do. Who has
schemes for all this stuff, if you don’t mind.
Thanks in advance.
Alexey.

I wouldn’t tinker with the hardware (you’ll only break it), but fix the software for compatibility.
Only if you don’t have the time, knowledge or desire, it’s easier to change the entire
computer.

How is the modem connected, via a 9-wire interface? Check the DCD signal on
the modem connector. Give the modem the AT&C1 command. If the modem produces a signal, then
most likely
there is a malfunction somewhere in the area of the serial interface controller in the
computer --
look at the microcircuits around 580ВВ51 and that too. Or perhaps the software is buggy, so
check
you need to start with registers 580ВВ51, whether the DCD changes there or not.
AT> the zmodem protocol does not work,
Likewise, problems are possible in the computer-modem interface.
Disable it in the modemflow control both CTS/RTS and XON/XOFF, and try
connecting at
low speed (1200bps for example). And again, purely software
incompatibility
of protocols on different computers is possible.
AT> xmodem works fine; Crashes often occur when working in

Most likely.
AT> I also wanted to connect the modem using a different scheme (the com port has a maximum

Your scheme is normal. Just not too fast.
And the operating system is normal. You want to exchange this for crooked and buggy
hardware
and tr-dos software that has reached a development dead end. As a result, you will ruin a wonderful
computer
“Pro” (I say this with knowledge of the matter...) and buy yourself a PC. It’s better to immediately buy
pts.
AT> At the same time, I would like to connect a hard drive under tr dos,
There is no such thing. Only in Scorpio it is somehow emulated.
AT> CD,
Your screw is IDE, right? At least right now hang up the ATAPI CD-ROM as a slave.
There’s just no software. But not for other computers either yet. And if you echo
upload the programming documentation to your controller, then you will have a
chance.
AT> IBM keyboard - also in a more standard way
Again, there is no such thing. Only in Scorpio it’s somehow buggy.
AT> (I have it according to profi standards, there will be two keyboards),
Do you only have it in CP/M?
AT> shadow RAM powered by a battery,
In Pro it seems you could install a real-time clock chip
512VI1 ?
Well, install it, you’ll have 64 bytes of RAM, and battery. Or do you need a ROM instead?
It’s not clear
why this is needed when there is an HDD.
AT> perhaps the screen is 512*192
IN THE PRO THERE IS SUCH (ALMOST) A SCREEN!
AT> .... the question is still open, I have about a month to think about it.
AT> Previously, the person who will hang all this on me should take care of the car
It’s a pity for your Pro, he will die.
AT> From the messages that came last time: it seems possible
AT> another modem connection is only through a multicard, which can

You don’t need SMUC without a scorpion, and the Kondratiev circuit will work, maybe
maybe...
AT> I heard that you can solder a connector to a connector connecting
AT> the top and bottom boards profik, and you will get a standard
AT> KAY slot (you just need to swap the contacts there). Is that so?
Well, almost so. Check the correspondence of the contacts carefully!
AT> It’s not clear with the multicard, you can only use the
AT> com port from it,or can you also connect a hard drive and a CD?
If you connect it correctly, you can use everything.
Only the Kondratiev scheme is not correct, it is 8-bit, so
on a multicard, nothing except FDD for COM/LPT ports will work.
AT> If it is also possible to attach a hard drive to it, will
AT> tr dos and existing programs work with it.
For TR-DOS you need not a circuit, but a program, which does not exist. This
has nothing to do with the scheme. Do you already have the screw connected? So don’t touch it, you can connect a CD-ROM
in parallel
.
AT> If anyone can, tell me what’s the best thing to do.
Don’t touch anything, except maybe a modem with a Kondratieff circuit, if
really
you want to use fido stuff on the spec (but even here it WOULD BE BETTER TO CHANGE THE SOFTWARE).
AT> Who has the schematics for all this stuff, if you don't mind.
Better scan, click in djvu and put it on the internet!

Are you writing via BBS? Cool.
