problem 2000
ZXNet echo conference «real.speccy»
From Max Shashkin → To All 3 December 1999
You probably already know that even on the real Spectrum the Y2K problem is inevitable. So I had a question.
How can we be realistic? After all, on the Spectrum the only
normal mail editor is Lara, unfortunately in which a glitch was found. Where
can I find a patch for Lara, or will the dear moderator and co-moderators allow
real-life people
to use this software.
With best wishes, Max Shashkin.

I greet you from the bottom of my heart, Max !
03 Dec. 1999, Max Shashkin squeezed the keyboard, hoping that the following words would reach All:

There are still 27 days to solve this problem...
Or y2k, like the harvest on a collective farm - out of the blue? Bam - and it comes. ;-/
There was a time when the author posted new versions almost every week...
Write, ask. Stimulate, finally ;))

Well, let's say this :) Now this issue is being resolved... and perhaps soon
a patch will be released (Service Pack 1) :) KVA just did not take into account one branch of the algorithm -
this is the presence of a leap year, it has something to do with the subjug has none! It's just
a coincidence... the solution to this problem is being handled by Tom Hial/ACL,
but if RUM/E-mage agrees to modernize the code :) KVA, then we can
hope for a positive solution to this issue...

No, it has the most direct relation. The fact is that the year 2000 is actually not a leap year, as follows from the truncated algorithm

This is an incorrect algorithm. We also need to check divisibility by 100.

I’ll risk deviating a little from the echo tag... The so-called. The "2000 problem" actually consists of two things: (1) truncation of the year number to two minor digits;
(2) an incorrect algorithm for calculating leap years that does not take into account division
by 100.

Oh, damn...
A year is considered a leap year if it is divisible by 4, with the exception centenary
years, the number of centuries in which is not divisible by four.
1996 is a leap year, 2000 is a leap year, 1900 is not a leap year. This is according to the Gregorian calendar. In Russia, until 1918, there was a Julian calendar and 1900 was a year in_Russia_. leap year.

Oh damn. Only, this is not for me.

Axiom of arithmetic - everything that is divisible by 100 is divisible by 4 because
100=4*25.
Axiom No1 of the normal algorithm for calculating leap years - everything that is
divisible by 100 is not a leap year.
Axiom No2 - but, nevertheless, everything that is divisible by 400 is
leap.
Axiom of programming - in Some programs use a truncated
algorithm - an algorithm without “axiom No2”.
I used the axiom - there are official documents
of software manufacturers dedicated to the “2000 problem”, where you can read about all this
.

In my opinion, we are talking, first of all, about _modern_. calendar, secondly
about software algorithms that calculate which year is a leap year and which is not.
In particular - about Lara, am I wrong?

Lara should finally not engage in tossing. So there is no need to remake it, but
make a separate and good tosser. And this is exactly what gets me, that there is no such thing and my hands are itching to make it, otherwise in the store it’s really bad. The database is killed and spoiled by nothing to do (even with safetoss), and also likes to glitch and hangs on the wrong messages... And when extracting pktsheks from Lara, a glitch was discovered!
Deviation from fidosh standards: each message ends with #00, and the pkt file
ends with #0000, so the last message + ending pkt = 3 (three)
zeros in a row. And the chest drains 2 current(!). Because of this glitch, I've been
trying to get the address out of one cool node for a month now... :(
