Let's come to a consensus on 'HDD'

Hello, Denis!
4 May 98 Denis Dmitriev was chewing his fingers in the hope that Dmitry Pugachev would read
about Let's come to a consensus on 'HDD', I read it and decided to answer:

DP> 2) Now we need to accept the screw format as a standard.
DP> Let's adopt the IS-DOS standard.
DD> NOW! Are you crazy or what?
'There is NO other alternative' (c) I don't remember whose.
DD> If she is the only one (so far) to which the screw drive
DD> can be attached
DD> is it possible for her, then everything is allowed to her now?! :-/
I don’t know about the others, but personally I doubt that a worthy
replacement for isdosu will ever appear.

Sincerely, Andrey.

No alternative will appear. The funny thing is that the isdos itself is unworthy.
Since it’s done there and how it should be is a big difference. And small-capacity
screws are somehow disappearing from circulation.

Our man. I respect you... :)
There is no alternative to Is-Dos, but: it is outdated... :(

With that, Andrey, let me say goodbye.

1. I doubt it.
2. If so, when?
3. Will everyone be able to use it? Just like Is-Dos? Or will it be necessary to change the ROM,
hardware, etc.? I've heard thoughts about ROM, it's not a bad idea, but if I have something in my Scorpio ROM that can't be in the new OS? Shadow monitor,
for example...

With that, Roman, let me say goodbye.

Well, whoever has 48K - for sure, there will be no alternative to is-dosu.

KC> Scorpio ROM there is something that cannot be in the new OS?

...Another ROM on top and switch. :) After all, Zonov
offered us (owners of non-Scorps) to convert computers into Scorps?! :) So this is a counter-offer.
What, in Scorpa the shadow monitor is flashed in place of BASIC128?!

Schazzzzzzz.... ;)

RM>?!

There’s actually a different ROM (more voluminous) and the Basic 128 is in place, and a bunch everything
else is there. I'm not saying that Scorpova ROM is wrong. There are a lot of bugs, etc. But: there is support for the screw, several programs are sewn into the frame disk, shadow, work
with the disk, etc.
And attach the second one... It’s possible, and I’ll probably even do that. ;)

It's your business. Then it is possible not ROM, and stat.RAM!

From Roman Petrov To All 27 May 1998

That's for sure. 48K, unfortunately, is not suitable for serious work.

RM> Wait, if the BASIC 128 is in place, and it didn’t fit the MOA, then you can
RM> safely throw it away! And there’s no need to touch the rest.
Well, let’s say MOA was still a little similar there, replacing at least the inscription
(c)1986 Sinclair Research with (c)1992-94 Scorpion ZS 256. Plus rearranged
menu items and introduced such an item as 48 TR-DOS.
That’s actually why (maybe there are some more) serious changes) I need
to ask MOA, otherwise I’ll suddenly pick up my ROM, but it won’t
work.

Yes, don’t think that I fell asleep writing the BIOS. Now
active work has just begun: my studies have ended, there is a lot of free time.
For example, yesterday I half wrote a keyboard driver.

With respect, Roman aka Megus of BrainWave association.

KIR.

P.S. Probably this was the very last person in the world... ;)
Or someone saw it from someone, came home and took out an old 48 from the far
shelf. IMHO, if a person gets carried away with Speck, he will do all sorts of things to himself.

=) Well, fools! Although this is, of course, a personal matter for everyone.

KC> IMHO, every car has some kind of charm... But if

So! If the “charm” is made without taking into account the existence of other “charms”... :(

What difference does it make whether it is voluminous or not? The main thing is to find the programmer.

From Eugene Safronov To All 1 June 1998

KC> And how? Did you find it? ;)
Probably, since I didn’t come up anymore :)

And who should be hit on the head for this? The one who invented this charm? Or the coders
who do not support it? ;)

From Roman Milukov To All 6 June 1998

KC> And who will you hit on the head for this? Who came up with this charm
KC>? Or coders who don’t support this? ;)

Yes! The problem “happens to happen”! :(

The coder, of course, must try to support everything that is possible. And of those
“charms” that conflict with others, of course, he can choose whatever
wants.
Looking at his computer, if the product is “for himself” or “so that it works for the majority.”
But a hard maker when developing a new one device should be more attentive! If,
of course, he wants others to grab this for themselves and be more informed!

Often it’s a pity to “hit you on the head”, because they do this not out of malice, but out of
ignorance.
Denis Dmitriev proposed creating ... a library of all existing devices with
descriptions or FAQ about this. You can post it on the server. And, before inventing a "bicycle", let them marvel at the designs that ALREADY exist and it will be useful for coders.

2Walerij Kozhewnikov: yours would be useful here. archives.

Hmm... For example, the well-known problem OUT (#FD),x - you can understand when it is
used in demos in which every extra clock cycle is needed... But when it is in a
game, or system program... Sorry...
