Latest collection of proposals for NeOS :)
ZXNet echo conference «real.speccy»
From Roman Petrov → To All 13 June 1999
I announce Subj! :) If anyone else has any suggestions for NeOS, then hurry up and let me know. Don't push it too hard - I want to live, and the ROM is not
rubber.
You _not_ write the following sentences:
1. Introduce path support into commands for working with files (already being done)
2. Make it possible to launch programs without the RUN command (similar)
3. Make a COPY command (I won’t do it anyway ;), it will be external).
4. Combine rmdir and del (I'll do it).
PS: Now you can run NeOS without resetting your computer. A kernal function has appeared that initializes NeOS system variables. Those. you can write
dual-system programs: it runs from under TR-DOS, but if it finds a NeOS ROM, it
uses its functions.
PPS: I’m finishing boot aka the alpha version of the commander. As soon as I do it, I’ll throw it here.

All of the above suggestions are about the interpreter.
If it is flashed into ROM and there is no way to replace it, then this is not
good.
Explain, please, the need to have an interpreter in ROM, and
not in RAM (i.e. bootable)

Where does it get the data to initialize its
variables?
PS/ last question: What is your degree of education in related matters?with the construction of an OS (studied something at
University, self-education, I do it on a whim, something else)?
+-All the best, Roman!

You can replace it! And this interpreter will be in ROM, although you can throw it out...
VP> Please explain the need to have an interpreter in ROM, and
VP> not in RAM (i.e. loadable)
It’s just convenient :) Loading takes a certain time, but with a floppy drive it’s not
at all convenient. Although, if you load the interpreter once, then, in principle, there is not much difference.

From the same place as when resetting :) That is. takes the initial settings from the ROM.

Self-education, initially it was on a whim, roughly focusing on the OS on
other machines. Then I read various books (don’t ask for names - I still can’t remember),plus I listened to the advice of people who were more knowledgeable in this matter.

?!!
Those who have “degrees” will not write even a small utility for Spec!
They are very busy, they have no time - why do they need Spec?
All the best.
Sincerely Roman.

Hmmmm... And Noman and I, for example? :)
RM> They are very busy, they have no time - why do they need Speck?
That's for sure - there is little free time. :(((
Good luck ! Evgeny. ■ The night is shorter than the day... The day will kill me... The world of illusions burns down in it. (C) Aria.

You have to earn money. ;) Somehow all this is starting to remind me of an old
story...
EM> Good luck! Evgeny.
With respect, Alex Noman.
zy. Officially, I actually wrote only _one_ "small utility". ;))
The rest is collecting dust on floppy disks. Unfinished or unformed... :(
