Connecting a 3.5" drive

ZXNet echo conference «real.speccy»

From Waldemar Krigen To All 25 October 2002

Hello, All!

Such a problem: I have a “yellow” Scorpio, therefore only
two_ drives are supported (and you need two 5.25" and one 3.5"). I made a power switch between the 3rd and the 5th - everything is ok on the 5th, but the 3rd doesn’t want to write
(WRITE PROTECT), even if you completely turn off the power from the 5th (signal loop in the
drive).

I removed the WPRT signal from the 5th cable: on the 3rd everything became ok, and
on the 5th, of course, Now you can even write to a “sealed” disk (and disc detection in commanders does not work).

Has anyone encountered such a problem?

What nonsense are you doing, uncle. Wouldn’t it be easier to install one microcircuit
and calmly use all 3 (4) drives at once, rather than mutilate the computer?

I also have a yellow scorpion! You wrote it in a complicated way, so listen to how it was for me
I worked for a long time in the 2x5'25 + 1x3'5 configuration. The button worked as follows:

pressed-drive A 5'25 (select 'A' signal is supplied to 5'25)
pressed-drive A 3'5 (select 'A' signal is supplied to 3'5)

plus, the power from the drive that was unnecessary at the moment was turned off!
all this worked for about 3 years until the board was modified to support 4 drives!
you only need one microcircuit (like ID7) and several wires!

The omnipresent Daniil...

If you parallelized two drives and only poweredswitch, then in my opinion this is
incorrect! Switch with drive sampling signals!

In order to change the default drives without problems, you need to use the
P2K switch independent fixation, it must be soldered into the gap
of the cable from the computer to the disk drives, pins 10 and 12.

Everything works fine for me even without turning off the power!

It’s better to install a screw :)

All the best, Waldemar!

Waldemar Krigen and All talked about the topic of Connecting a 3.5" drive, I intervened:

WK> Has anyone encountered such a problem?

this is a problem of crooked hands and zero knowledge, when you turn off the power supply, the
signal bus on the beta interface with the flop that is turned off goes to 0, and with
this
I’m surprised how it even works for you. Don’t touch Pitalovo, manipulate the
select signal.

With respect, Maxony.

In this case it does not matter.

There is no need to switch the power supply. It should be on both drives.

WK> was OK, but on the 5th drive, of course, now you can write even to a

WK> Has anyone encountered this problem?
This problem is quite common. I solved it in a different way. I have two
disk drives 3 and 5. I connected them as A and B through a switch. That is, in one position A - 3, B - 5, in the other position it is the most
convenient.

Since this topic affects many, I will try in the near future. disassemble
your computer and make an article with a diagram for such a connection.

Sincerely, AlexanderKushnikov aka Sander.

It's better to install the screw right away. This is Scorpio.
