By the way, if you really look at things, the Spectrum has a chance to become a
commercial product.
Namely, now a new niche is becoming popular - minicomputers, so-called handhelds (palms) etc.). Specky has the only chance to become a commercially successful project if it is positioned in the not yet fully formed niche of handhelds:
a) make it extremely compact
b) handwriting input and recognition
c) improving the technical characteristics of Specky
d) color LCD display
d) and other things for which handhelds are loved.
Why Specky has the opportunity to takehandheld niche? Because:
a) in this area there is not yet any established standard and handhelds
use a variety of OS, software and processors
b) Speckie has a huge advantage in the form of a legacy of programs (free
by the way, which is also an advantage), a well-promoted brand, its history, entire
generations of Speckie fans
c) and much much more compared to newly promoted ones brands that
do not have a large amount of software, etc.
I repeat, Speckie DOES have a chance to be a commercial, sellable
self-sustaining and profitable project.
PS. If such a computer appears, I would not be the only one to become its owner.
But the important question is how to implement it, what will it take
how much time, money, where are the people capable of making it?

Bye Ruslan!
...Have you used the FTN package?

From Andrew V. Miheev To All 1 June 2004

You can’t make it happen. Just the development of such a device costs 100 grand
bucks. If the demand is, say, a hundred pieces a month (and I highly doubt that they will buy more than 10 pieces, and then only collectors), it will cost around 800-1000 bucks. Are you ready to pay that much for it? I think - no.
If you are ready, then I can make it for you for such a price - I had a VHDL model of the Z80 somewhere in the archives, and it won’t be difficult to “finish” the rest.
I’ll put it all into one big PLUS, add a color monitor from Sotik and
a keyboard from an electronic notebook, here’s your dream. 8-)
Well, why are you buying your dream for $1000? 8-)

IMHO, A 40-key keyboard would still be nice. And a 60-key keyboard wouldn't take up much space. It is difficult to adapt old programs for handwritten
input.

And the main problem is the practical impossibility of mass production. :-(

Good luck!

The point is that you need a better processor, you can use existing
processors, even if not Zet X, but ensure its emulation.
By the way, in principle, you can generally use any existing
successful one as a basis handheld,
when I talk about Spectrum I meant that I, having *.tap or other Speck
files, could use them in a handheld, I just don’t know whether it’s realistic to
emulate Spec on existing handhelds.
Spec’s programs are really cool, now having an Athlone 1700 processor and a bunch of
all sorts of newfangled games, I have a Spectrum Real emulsion and I'm playing
Spekkov's games.

Bye Andrew!

It's quite possible, it's just, apparently, no one writes. If even for cell phones with Symbian OS (Nokia 7650, 3650, 3660, 6600, Nokia N-Gage, Siemens SX1, etc.) there is an emulator of the 128th spectrum with full emulation, it even emulates multicolor and AY! Those interested are welcome to www.whitecloudsoftware.com
Mobile phones in this series have ARM 32-bit RISC processors. I don't
know the clock.

Don't be funny. The capacity of the ALU, in general, does not affect anything.

It’s just that literal programmers don’t know how to write software.
It is known that baboons write software for PCs in Visual Basic,
and they have difficulties with menus of more than three times nesting...

There was a spec's emul for Palm OS, look for it on the net. I don’t know what it looks like on the handheld screen. I haven’t looked. Creating a commercial handheld from spec is unrealistic. The handheld niche is divided between machines on Palm OS and between machines on Pocket PC
(Win CE), all the rest (which still remain) occupy no more than a percent.

I apologize for supporting this boring topic, but I can’t help myself...
I have a PalmSpec, it’s complete crap (I don’t have a flame, I use an emulsifier), the screen
breaks into 4 parts and between them you can switch by poking the stylus on the screen, emulit
only 48th with tape (or even only takes snapshots) and is very slow, for example, scene 1 of the hobit appears minutes later... I couldn’t wait.

Amstard Spectrum +3e (with flash drive, its own dossier, idea, a lot of RAM, Ethernet

And here is a phrase from the Russian-language history of the Spectrum: End of 1988 - Amstrad
stopped producing all Spectrum models. I checked it - went to
www.amstrad.com. Spectrum is mentioned only in the description of one product - Amstrad emailer Plus. It has nothing in common except the ability to launch Spectrum toys with a real Spectrum.
