From Vladimir Chernikov To All 12 June 2004

12 June 04 Hello All!!!

Maybe someone has already connected an LCD monitor to the Spectrum?
Share your experience and send me a connection diagram.
How to connect a CRT monitor to the Spectrum that works with an IBM PC? I really don't
want to have two monitors in front of my eyes when I can get by with one and
free up space.

With best wishes, Vladimir Panteleevich.

If it has a regular SVGA input, then apparently you should (as for a simple
monitor) look for a piece of hardware called a scandabler (such
were produced for the Amiga). True, it costs from $150, so this is not a popular solution.

VC> I really don’t want to have two monitors in front of my eyes when you can get by
VC> with one, and the space will be freed up.

The simplest and optimal solution is to buy a TV tuner in a PC ;)
They almost always have a low-frequency input...
I recommend buying FlyVideo3000FM - the best of cheap ($38),
download firewood and programs from http://auzol.narod.ru/

If you don’t want the PC to work while ZX is running - then
you should look at external computer TV tuners - some
of them can work autonomously.

Some more video devices come with low-frequency inputs (although they call it TV-In - this is a regular low-frequency input).

zy. don’t forget to put in a decoupling capacitor (type 25uF*50V).

Sincerely, Evgeniy.

Hello, Vladimir!

On Saturday, June 12, 2004, Vladimir Chernikov and All discussed "LCD monitor for
Spectrum?". Let's continue the conversation.

VC> Maybe someone has already connected an LCD

You can connect an LCD car TV (via the low-frequency input).
It costs, however, about 3000 rubles.

That’s all for me. Bye, Vladimir.

EP> If you don’t want the PC to work during the operating time of the ZX is then

Well, of course, why do it immediately on both the PC and the Speck, let the PC breathe while I
use it on the ZX.

EP> you should look at external computer TV tuners - some
EP> of them can work autonomously.

That is. Without a computer you can watch TV shows and work on Speck. Eureka! advise? I'm waiting.

VC> I wonder who else would advise? I'm waiting.

You can put a TV with a SCART input instead of the Spec monitor, and
connect the Spec to it. The space, however, will not be freed up, but it will be possible to watch TV (without a TV tuner). :) That's how it is for me.

Even without multicolor in many games and demos, the screen will be complete

sprites simply disappear - they have a drawing method like this, the most striking
example is the disappearing mouse arrow, everyone has seen... That is, you can only really look at

Come on! If you do it normally, then multicolor will work with a bang...
Simply write the information directly from the RGB output into a separate buffer - then, in parallel
with another process, pull it out of it and re-encode it to 320x200x16 and that's all there; Well, if there is not enough space for a border with some kind of scrolling, then at

There were old monitors with a television scanning frequency such as those EIZO that were supplied with
MSX2. And even now you can find a normal VCR (the price will actually be under $300). But this is not the same thrill at all - agree! It is necessary that SPECCY connects to any VGA/SVGA monitor! By the way, this is
what many (mostly bourgeois) have been waiting for from a sprinter for 5(?) years.

A spec with an SVGA monitor is called an EMULATOR. And the picture will be just as bad.

Complete nonsense. The grain size does not play any role here. Or do you naively
believe that one point of the image always corresponds to one point
of the monitor screen? A square image on the monitor is obtained due to a different ratio of the horizontal and frame frequencies of the monitor. It is possible to lower the frequencies and
adjust them to the Spectrum ones, but the short afterglow time
of the phosphor of modern monitors will noticeably “flicker” at such frequencies.

Sorry of course for such an answer. But with I. Mak everything is dead; both his ideas and his brainchild
sprinter too. All that people told him was that he was in trouble; he was going to get rich by stamping slop iron by competing with PECSE - that’s why he suffered. What the hell?
If he had competed with the PC (which is pointless), he would not have introduced modes
of full compatibility with the Spectrum, there would not have been a full-fledged AY and
Kempston mouse emulator, and TR-DOS emulation on the hard drive would not have been needed.
He suffered from the general departure of people from Spectrum.

Plus another psychological option - the fully assembled Sprinter looked like two peas in a pod, so it began. When there are two almost
identical looking computers next to each other at home, people start asking stupid questions - “why
the second one?”

AR> ZX respecters would have received much more - maybe there would have been 10,000 pirated copies of sprinter in exUSSR

I beg you.
There wouldn’t have been them.
One unsoldered one the board costs 700 rubles, plus you need to order several
region-specific (but available at the same time) components.
Then configure, and this is more difficult than a standard Spectrum, bus frequenciesetc.
above, you won’t be able to find everything with a simple multimeter.
The final price would have reached the same level.
But psychology worked again - if I can’t do it myself, then what the hell.
