Hello, Artur!

Mon May 17, 1999 you wrote here:

In some cities there will be names that you have never heard of. A few years ago
they were riveted in every city.
We mainly have Quantor (these are Leningrad-like) and the Pentagon.

AI> 2. memory capacity (if more than 128K, then on which ports)

In our area, I think, about 30-40% are 128K, the rest 512K-1M. Naturally according to
#7FFD, since these are all improvements. Some additionally have the opportunity to
enable the pro port, but its relevance is falling (personally, I don’t remember when
I turned it on).
There are a lot of 48s with a flop, but they are almost never used. The owners sell them very cheaply. Others buy, increase RAM and use it. This is the situation with hardware.

AI> 3. various hardware add-ons (Kovox, GMH, GS, turbo, etc.)

GMH and GS have never even been seen in our country.
At the Pentagons, many have turbos, in others it’s rare.
Well, all sorts of KOVOX, caches, watches - little by little...

AI> each subscriber of this echo can conduct a survey in his city, and

Yes, there’s no need to conduct a survey here, everyone usually knows the local situation.
But there won’t be any exact numbers.

All the best.
Sincerely, Roman.

I don’t understand the mandatory nature of FDFD. Well, the profikovsky DFFD is okay, there is
a certain amount of software for 1M on it.
It copes perfectly with 512 K and 7FFD (and with 1M too).
And FDFD?! What is there for it that would not be available for the other two ports?

Provocations would be disgusting on my part. I moderate not because I am such a person, with sadistic inclinations, or because I need it more than anyone else, but because someone still needs to do this. This is not a pleasant activity, you can

I decided to add heat to this dialogue.

RM> But I’m wondering if there is at least one computer where

What's wrong with that? For example, I have both 512x192 and 128Kb on my computer, and I’m writing from it now. If there is a question about the need for expansion, I will definitely install 512Kb, but for now the need for additional memory is not visible to me personally.

2EM: that's what we were arguing about. Nowadays there is no such software for which people would expand their memory.

But if there was good software, the right software, the need would become

From Dmitry Pavluhin To All 13 June 1999

Of course, but I don’t really want to set myself 512 KB for the sake of a large
RAM disk (I have 2 drives). And I have not yet seen other
applications of memory (except for the Land of Myths - cool)
There is hope that with the gradual development of NeOS (or something better) it will become more convenient to use extended memory and then
the need for it will appear. Although, as is known, the amount of memory in programs is eaten up by graphics and music. And in Spec (unsophisticated) these costs are not high compared to the same Amiga, because the graphic screen takes up only
6912 bytes of memory, and music on AY requires little RAM.

Well then the conversation is useless. If you're talking about toys, then I'm surprised how even one of these appeared. Making toys with more than 128 RAM is simply unprofitable
(usually the authors want to get money for them).

Yes, I don’t need special performance from the disk. I need a large volume available to the program, and not 640 KB (720/800 - to taste). And then
I receive 1.5 Mega every evening - where can I put them on a regular TR-DOS disk

There are two computers: Pentagon 128/Soundrive/Mouse/PC-keyboard
Amiga CD32 + SX1

SMUC controller and ProfPZU from Scorpa are available. But in view
of the lack of a decent system for the "screw" (NeOS doesn't count either - there's
nothing for it yet) I'm not installing it yet. I’m writing from an Amiga, but before that I wrote perfectly
from Speck, the only inconvenience is that almost 1MB
of mail arrives to me (packed) per day. and Specka is very inconvenient to read it. That's why I'm a supporter of "screws" and not RAM disks :). And if someone starts
to say that, they say, “there’s no point in writing out so much mail,” they will be wrong,
because if people don’t suffer on other computers, then why
Spectrumists should suffer?
