M$ and Spectrum? Or do you want to process files created by M$-Office
on the Spectrum? In this case, IMHO it is quite enough
.doc at the rtf level (you need a standard set of fonts for the Spectrum and
an appropriate editor...) and .xls at the readonly level (that is
just in a text file). And, as I already wrote, this is quite possible.
Well, you may also need to tear out pictures from .doc and somehow display them
on a tiny Spectrum screen. You can somehow cope with viewing
written files on the spec. But in the opposite
direction it is more difficult, most likely only rtf files and separately
pictures.

I can help you send a description of the format (1.5M in lzx), but this will not help you much
There are simplified algorithms used by the plugin for Amiga
EvenMore and AntiWord, but this makes it possible to convert only MSWord 1, 4
and MacWord 4, 6 at best. Russian text is scribbled in half the cases,
and in the latest Words it is generally stored in unicode - topic for a separate
conversation. If you want, I can give you some clues. You'll figure it out in a week.

#?.rtf is not #?.doc. =) #?.rtf is really supported, it’s all
intuitive tags and plain text. #?.xls is also not too difficult
to support. There is no normal support for #?.doc in any program or platform known to me. This is unrealistic. Can you

You can’t put Spec in your pocket... As I understand it, when it comes
to talking about a subject on Spec, then the absence of PC is implied.

28 Aug 02 19:16, Yuri Potapov -> tigrr:
YP> AOT: people, no one tried to code on the Office spec?
I didn’t try, but I was thinking about implementing at least electronic
tables. I think that nothing is impossible. You just need to approach this problem a little differently than at the PC. Example Tomy PalmOS. There the concept is this: the PDA itself works mainly only with its own formats, that is, documents specially prepared on a large computer (PC, Mac) are loaded into the handheld. As a result, under PalmOS there is not one, but several office packages that can process documents from MS-Word and MS-Excel.
For Spec with its resources, it is also too wasteful to use the native Microsoft format, which is worth it, which no one needs on Spec encoding
unicode. Probably in the case of Speck there is no question of making filters built into MS-Office. In my opinion, it is quite possible to write converters for these (MS and not only) documents to Spec and vice versa for Spec itself. Let's assume that the user started filling out some kind of Excel table on the PC, wrote it down on a floppy disk, copied it to Spec, then launched the converter program, loaded the resulting file into Spec's tables, worked there, started the converter again and took it to PC.
In my opinion, Spectrum really lacks normal spreadsheets
(VU-Calcand others like him don’t count, but what was called spreadsheets under iS-DOS is essentially not them at all). I understood how such tables might look on
Spec by looking at the analogue under PalmOS. It’s quite possible to see what spreadsheets look like under
PalmOS on Spec, so they are b/w and with a resolution
160x160. So if you want, and the moderator doesn’t mind, you can post screenshots here in 6912 SCR format.

This only means that bmp the pictures are stored in compressed form.
But this does not mean that the .doc file itself is packed.
Type any text in English letters, and then look at the contents of the file.
Hmm... And if in Word the picture is not “inserted”, but “linked to the file”, then the
result is the size The Word file will not grow at all!
This, apparently, indicates super-efficient file compression? ;)

NAME
Doc (Pilot standard text document) file format
SYNOPSIS
struct doc_record0 { /* 16 bytes total */
Word version; /* 1 = plain text, 2 = compressed text */
Word reserved1;
DWord doc_size; /* uncompressed size in bytes */
Word num_recs; /* not counting itself */
Word rec_size; /* in bytes: usually 4096 (4K) */
DWord reserved2;
};
DESCRIPTION
The Doc file format is the standard text document format
used by all models of the3Com PalmPilot and the IBM Work-
pad. A Doc file is a pdb(4) file: this manual page
describes only those aspects specific to Doc files.
A Doc file consists of 0 to num_recs records; record 0 is
the header for the document. (This header is distinct from
the pdb(4) header.) The remaining records contain text,
either plain or compressed depending upon version.
Word Sizes
In the synopsis above, the types ``Word'' and ``DWord'' are
used just as in the Pilot headers. The type ``Word'' is 16
bits; the type ``DWord'' is 32 bits. Both are in big-endian
format.
Compression Format
A character ``c'' in a compressed record is in one of four
classes:
01-08 Copy ``c'' bytes
00,09-7F Self
80-BF Sequence
C0-FF A space plus the ASCII character ``c ^ 0x80''

p.S. root - это кстати корень. Hапример корневая директория в AmigaOS
это root (подразумевается, но не называется так). Поскольку для
отдельных индивидуумов ООП есть немерянный рулез, то отсюдаIt follows
that this approach applies to everything, including
file formats. Everything that can be seen as components of an MSWord
document (pictures, primitives, wordart, etc) is taken as objects.
Naturally, they are in some relationship with each other
(hierarchical). Naturally, this tree has a root.
If you haven’t written in C++, E or at least JavaScript, and even less
have no idea about the methodology for programming database
databases (mSQL/mySQL Server, Informix, or at least Access), then I
strongly recommend that you thoroughly understand dBASE (at the user
level and formats), FoxPro (at the manager level under
PC/DR/MSDOS) and use old poppy DBMSs (Panorama,
File Force, Helix Express, 4th Dimension). This is the required minimum
knowledge in order to write a #?.dbf oriented
DBMS on the Spectrum and not do another crap. I’m silent about #?.xls, because
it’s nonsense.

of various document formats. As you enter, the alphabet is in front of you.
Description #?.doc can be downloaded from the list starting with the letter "d". In the #?.zip archive.
Since I have been actively using this archive for the last two years, I
don’t think that it has ceased to exist since last weekend...
I can be even more precise. The description of #?.doc is freely available at microsoft.com for
over the last 3 years (this does not prevent the existence of a cohort
of perverts who dream of picking apart this format on their own). Who
really needs it - download it.The inability to use search engines, browsers, etc. in 2002 is not taken seriously. With this
you don’t need to tinker with formats, but read books on computer science for preschoolers. A
it’s better to teach. By heart. =)

Consider me a lamer, but I understood almost nothing from the above, but nevertheless
I consider myself a Spectrumist. And I also think that I work well for the PC -
the management is happy.
With respect, Alexander Kushnikov aka Sander.

In a chit of 11 Sep 02 you wrote to Eugene Sobolev :

Issues of coordination of left-wing networks are discussed in detail in rfc. There is no translation, so some are content with facts. =) Just kidding, of course...
Regardless of your kludges, in your target line (you don’t even need to rewind the thread)
it is clearly written - W32. On the offtopic site there are no problems with Internet access. End.

for me - yes, but for those who need to get on the Internet:

PID says anything? ;)

see insert a little higher. :)
unless you are writing software for the Internet on Speccy. ;)

if you watch the tearline, you won’t have any more questions
and IMHO everyone knows how to write an email from Fido :)

Firstly, this is not a question of self-esteem, but a question of what you do on
the same PC. You administer, implement your applications in production under
popular DBMSs or simply “PC operator”, etc. Secondly, the answer will be
standard - rewind the thread and you will understand everything. I believe in you. And finally, thirdly, everyone can consider themselves to be anyone. As for me, I
long ago got rid of my attachment to specific platforms (Speccy, Ammy,
PeeCee, Mac, etc.). What you work with does not matter. Therefore, all
insults are out of the window.

what, like a C compiler was found somewhere, Mozilla in the source code is available, we compile
for spec :) so far it is considered the most direct browser, so everyone will
be happy :) only the source code is packaged about 30 MB... :) ~50 floppy disks :)
