ZXNet echo conference «real.speccy»

From Aleksey Tarasow To All 11 May 2002

To my great regret, I never knew how to work with a soldering iron enough to solder and understand circuits. So
I have to either send the computer in for repairs for any
alterations. While I'm working in FIDO, the software under
CP/M allows me to work with both BBS and mail
(the latter is not working for me yet). Work is possible in two
modes: 64x30 lines in color and 80x30 lines in black and white
version. Here is a short list of software for working with mail:

tm.com + emsix.ptc - terminal and transmission protocol. This
bundle provides network and transport
level protocols, i.e. allows two network nodes to connect,
perform mutual identification, and send each other
some information in the form of files.
pkt.com + msged.com + pstrip.com - program for processing
incoming/outgoing mail, editor for reading/writing
letters, a utility for working with letter databases. This bundle
processes mail received by the node in the form of files
and packs information to be sent into files.
lzh.com - used to unzip incoming files.

When the protocol starts emsix.ptc exits to doss.
Perhaps I'm doing something wrong or it's not working correctly or
it finds an operational error but doesn't report it. If anyone has
worked with these programs, then I ask for his help.
I am interested in programs for working in FIDO under TR-DOS and
IS-DOS. How do they work with a modem? Is it possible to work with US ROBOTICS through them or do they only needspecial
modems? What modifications are needed to the machine to work with them?
In addition, I heard that with SPECCY it is possible to access the
INTERNET, if this is true, what is needed for this and where
can I get it?
Unfortunately, I am a complete ignoramus in such matters so
I will be grateful for any help and information.

Setting up the boss on LZH is possible, in addition, I have unzip under
the old pkzip. Multicard from IBM or your own? Does any of the
described work with BBS or only everything works with FIDO, if so, are there
programs for 80 characters per line (what do they work with)?

Your pro modem is probably connected via a serial port to BB51?
If so, then YOU HAVE BIG PROBLEMS WITH HARDWARE. TR-DOS software is designed for
more
other modem connection options... well, maybe only melon will work.

From the pussy. And you need to plug it into an adapter assembled according to the Kondratz scheme.

Melon is a terminal emulator, can pick up/send fidish mail.

Yes, but not under the pro screen.

Well, how do they work... They work through ports. IS-DOS has a cool mailer - Dickie Mailer. It supports the most common switching schemes, clocks, and in general an almost full-fledged soaper - in the sense that only the point part (since it does not support passwords for incoming sessions). It has a built-in terminology. There are some sources and, if you really want, you can probably
make support for any screen, including Pro.

AT> work with US ROBOTICS or do they only require special

Do they work with any hardware internal modems, including
US ROBOTICS (I had one myself for more than a year)

AT> modems? What modifications are needed to the machine to work with them?

You need to assemble a Kondratiev circuit (primitive) or not assemble anything, but plug the modem into the PC peripheral connector in SMUC in Scorp.

Hello ALL who answered me, and others too. I will write the answers
to everyone in one mixed letter. What?

VK> In your pro, the modem is probably connected via the serial port on BB51?
VK> TR-DOS software is designed for more
VK> other modem connection options... well, maybe only melon will work.

My modem is connected through the com port of the pro. As for problems with hardware - most likely yes, but only with regard to the com port (of the remaining system engineers, no one undertakes to do this, and I’m not so good at holding a soldering iron in my hands). Otherwise, everything works almost perfectly (the screw under cp/m is a little loose). Actually, I would like to know about other
types of modem connections, so the com port of a pro keeps a maximum of 9600. But
a phrase like “Kondratiev circuit” doesn’t tell me anything. Yes, in fact, I don’t have any software except for cp/m (I don’t know where to get it). What
is SMUC?

melon)

under the pro screen there are no trdos/isdos programs. There is an extension 512*192, the quality is
worse than the pro screen, but it is supported by Melon and Lara Croft. Without this
extension there will be 64 characters in a line with a 4*8 matrix.

it won’t work, for the pros there is a slightly different connection vv51 (not counting the fact that
the ports are different)

It’s unlikely:
1) for pros the screen is in other banks
2) although any bank can be included in #4000-#7fff, but at addresses #c000-$ffff
there will be a 7th bank
3) even/odd familiar places are mixed up X

They mainly connect internal modems. In your case, you can connect
a multicard (with serial ports) from the IBM-PC and connect
your
external modem to it. With your connection diagram, the options are: 1) fix the melon
under your
scheme, 2) fix (there are sources) DosX driver from Dickie mailer, 3) hammer it in.

Adapter for connecting the IDE HDD and ISA modem to the Scorpion computer.

Not so. The contacts there are slightly different, but it is possible to make a standard slot.

AT> And where can I get the boardsexpansion (otherwise 1 slot will not be enough)?

Do it yourself...

AT> When using a multicard, all its capabilities are preserved?

All - what are they? The serial port is only used.
You can, if desired, connect all the ports (serial and parallel),
connecting HDD and HDD is basically impossible (in Spectrum there is an 8-bit data bus,
and in IBM-PC it is at least 16-bit).

Little has changed, well, the bugs have only been fixed (and now it works with large disks in 16 MB
screws).

This is a universal controller of PC-peripherals. A hard drive,
clock, modem or anything else is connected to it as desired with the ISA bus.

I saw a shortened one on the market (it became maybe an 8-bit hard drive controller).
Old as my life.
..Noooo... not that much :)))
