crooked iron (CMOS in Scorp)

From Valerij Kozhevnikoff To All 25 December 1998

Hello, Dmitry!

22 Dec 98 at 03:27:00, Dmitry Lomov => Valerij Kozhevnikoff:

VK>> the bad i8031 throws so many whites on the poor Z80 that sometimes it’s easier
VK>> to turn off the computer
VK>> and turn it on again than to wait until it has these whites

VK>> Just don’t grin maliciously, saying “that’s their problem,” and “this doesn’t happen on
VK>> normal
VK>> computers.”
VK>> Normal programs of normal programmers are considered
VK>> normal,
VK>> because they work on any hardware.

DL> even on obviously defective ones?

Already looks like fascism. Discrimination based on hardware. Let's send all
owners of "defective" hardware to the garden, leaving only purebred,
true Aryan pentagonists, whose all the hardware is straight.
By the way, the Scorpov PC keyboard controller clearly picks up EIGHT _simultaneously_
buttons pressed. But many controllers catch like emuls - only one.
I have a circuit for this.

DL> this is by the way, but in general I agree - it is necessary using HALT, since
DL> there is not much difference in how to poll the keyboard... you can
DL> support crooked hardware.

Yeah. And port #1ffd is crooked hardware, and the screw that only goes through #3d13, and floppy drive B is also crooked hardware. And _people_ suffer with this hardware, andfinally they
get bored with everything, have a nervous breakdown, and become one more pc-user.
And in the end, even the most buggy appendage of Windows will never bother loading itself
onles from drive A.

WBR, Jason.

----────═══════════════╡ Hello, Valerij !╞═══════════════─────---

Somehow 25 Dec 98 at 05:40:43 there was a conflict
Valerij Kozhevnikoff and Dmitry Lomov were arguing on the topic crooked iron (CMOS in
Scorp)
I decided to continue this debate:

VK> It already looks like fascism. Discrimination based on hardware. Let's send all
VK> owners of "defective" hardware to the garden, leaving only purebred,
VK> truly Aryan pentagonists, whose all iron is straight.
VK> By the way, Scorpov's PC keyboard controller clearly picks up EIGHT

VK> I have a circuit for this.
No, well, give me the circuit of your controller, we will assemble it and write _not
commercial_ software that will work with it, otherwise Uncle Zonov released a keyboard controller that has its own peculiarities in operation, classified the circuit, as always
he didn’t say anything to anyone and pushes it to the right and to the left, and because of its
price and hassle with shipping, only those living in St. Petersburg and its
suburbs buy it, and after that you want people to support this controller?

It seems to me that the situation is a little reminiscent of the story with Kmyshka, until the scheme was declassified, the mouse software was written only in St. Petersburg and at the same time everyone was shouting that
the mouse needs to be supported in newly written software, butthey actually began to do this
only after the scheme was published in all kinds of 'mass media'.

VK> It already looks like fascism. Discrimination on the basis of hardware.

of course.

VK> Let's send all owners
VK> of "defective" hardware to the garden, leaving only purebred, truly
Aryan
VK> pentagonists, whose all iron is straight.

no, not like that :) first let's set a ruler by which to
measure the curvature we will. IMHO, obviously flawed is when, with a small
makeweight, the circuit can be completely rid of its inherent
_nightmarish_ drawback. For some reason my keyboard doesn't slow down
at all, the circuit is quite simple... the principle of the keyboard is the same.
I spent two weeks on its development, and the history of its creation is
several years, I solved this problem in different ways, for a number
reasons I couldn't immediately implement the "correct" principle.
but - I didn't have a brake _nowhere_, I wouldn't allow myself to do that. and Zonov allows...
why is the disadvantage terrible? because it does not fit into the ideology of the Specov Claudia. if you emulate, do it
transparently, and don’t invent your own rules for accessing the
keyboard. Tomorrow there will be a slow mouse - will we rewrite the software, give recommendations? or would you recommend climbing to the keyboard
through #028E?
“nightmare” is when you see that a person, launching the
_needed_ old program, in a rage picks it up and slams it
on the table, because it"stuck" at the most inopportune moment...
I saw it, I know it.
the person who made it is not a spektrumist; the result
is known. before development, you could ask around/think -
but no, we will go our own way...

but, I repeat -
