flop controller not working

ZXNet echo conference «real.speccy»

From Eugene Palenock To All 29 October 2004

Hello, All!

I've been tinkering with it for a week now - to no avail.
The main thing is simple circuit - no PLM, everything is based on logic.
True, the computer (atas256) is on ULA.
ULA receives CLK from LH1+quartz16MHz, and issues CLK4 to the flop controller (it is sent to the
VG93 itself for synchronization (24th leg) WAIT signal).

In general, it does not read floppy disks at all.
When formatting, it spends 14 seconds on each track (2 sides).
Then it displays something like 2544/2544, but the subsequent LIST writes error immediately.

As I understand it, you need to dig the reading circuit. It’s simple here, TM8 - LA3 - IE7.
I looked at it with an oscilloscope. All signals, however, pass through and reach legs 26 and 27
VG93. IP passes. There are IRQ and DRQ, sampling for reading their port - too.

I tried a lot of flops - they are not dead.
I also installed different VG93, some of them should have been working.

So why might it not work?

Regards, Evgeniy.

Good afternoon, Eugene!

EP> VG93 also installed different ones, some of them should have been working.

oh, that was a long time ago... it looks like that’s what’s wrong with it

EP> So why might it not work?

Ve-Ge-shka is not completely dead, they gave it five and forgot twelve, or turned on
both power supplies together, while 12 was late,... something in this spirit, I
haven’t worked with them
for ten years - I don’t remember exactly how to do it correctly.
Also look at power supply 12. I remember this was the case - I changed it and everything went well.
The controller was separate, the one that was attached to the 48k with two 64s, and
soldered on top [I don’t remember what TM9?] PE3/RT4 - turbo option

Sincerely, Evgeny Belov.

EB> Ve-Ge-shka is not completely dead, they gave her five and forgot twelve, or

No. The problem turned out to be in the formation of IORQ_GE. For the keyboard controller it was necessary to make one... If there is a resistor of more than 200 ohms, then this is a bug. In the manual
however they write 470-620th. I set everything in this range and never had any problems. And here - so here it is. Apparently, IORQ is being greatly improved somewhere
(I suspect that in the depths of ULA).
