HOW I ROBBED THE MUSIC :~-( EMULATORS TO THE MUSEUM!

All sorts of new formats are appearing for storing music from the spectrum,
for example VTX. But they appear not for the Spectrum, but for bad
emulators.
And these emulators translate all the music into them and it is forever lost for the
Spectrum. Lost because you can’t listen to these files on the real spectrum,
the size in unpacked form is 500 kilobytes...

I decided to come up with some simple real-time packaging for a start
and at the same time listen to how it sounds (I don’t have a sound blaster in my pussy, but YM
which I’m going to it connected it sounds even worse). I wrote a simple program that played music from the robbery and then from the AY registers. And then the most interesting thing: when I debugged the program, stole the music and decided to listen
to the music, I didn’t hear it! The disgusting set of sounds is completely unlike the original!
There was a strong desire to run for a basin and throw up (C)FK.

Well, since I slightly cut off the unused high-order bits in the registers,
the idea arose that this was the whole point! I quickly made all the registers 8-bit,
except for the 13th (there is one reason for this...) and listened - CRAP with a capital letter!

The last doubts were dispelled, now I am sure for sure - THE ORDER
RECORDING DATA IN THE REGISTERS IS IMPORTANT! I suspected this for a long time. After all, some time elapses between register updates, andAY is playing something. For example, it is important in what sequence the frequency registers of each of the
channels are updated. Of course, they can object to me that the player writes data to AY
with one OUTI command, but why then does it sound so crappy if I
do about the same thing? But there are different types of players!

In the archive in which this file is located there is AY.ZAS - the source of my
assembler program ZXASM ver. 3.10 and SONG.$C is the music that I listened to. The source is in a regular text file and, if necessary, it can
be converted for any other assembler.

I will be interested in the results of listening in emulators and real
spectrums, so _after_ listening, please write me a letter and
express your opinion about what you heard.

P.S.: launch from SAVE_AYM tags for listening with a player from ProST
and simultaneous recording into memory and PLAY_AYM for playing from
memory.

P.P.S.: The archive follows in UUE, called DUMP_AY.ZIP

P.P.P.S.: I would like to know the opinion of mainly real-life people - listen and tell
that emulators are Sax, ok? Well, if it’s not convincing, then you can put on more different
music.

... no day without speccy!
