How to initialize the drive?

Hello, All!

Subj. And then I discovered a glitch in NeOS. I came across it while writing Commander and now
I don’t know whose glitch it is - NeOS or Commander? There is a suspicion that the drive has not been initialized correctly, so I would like to know how to _correctly_ and
_completely_ initialize the drive?

Give VGshka a command with code 0. There are no other ways, IMHO.

An operation necessary for the first (after turning on/resetting the computer) access to the
disk drive. Fives, as far as I know, don’t care whether they are initialized or
not,
but threes must be initialized. But what is included in it - I
already asked (what commands should be given to the controller).

In general, in order for the drive to actually start working, you need
to make sure that the correct number is in the VG93 track register. It
always contains the number of the track on which the head is located. The simplest way to
initialize this is to issue command #08 (restore). According to it, the head
is guaranteed to move back before the TR00 signal appears from the drive, and #00 is guaranteed to be written to the track register. There is another method used in TR-DOS
to protect against accidental movements of the head: before executing each command
the current track is simply read (#C4 is supplied - reading the address, the header of the first available sector is
read from it, the number
of the current track is taken from there and placed in port #3F). This second method has the disadvantage that it only works if there is a formatted disk in the drive. I don't know anything else on this issue, and AFAIK from the point of view of the controller, the treshka and the five are no different from each other.

All the best, Pavel Fedin.

Maybe your problem is not the difference between three-point and five, but something else?
For example, the original version of Commander Max Petrova, who works well with
Russian 5.25" and some imported flops (including 3.50"), does not
plow

RP> The drive doesn't care. Without initialization, 3.5 drives do not want to work
RP>. I have been convinced of this more than once.

Do you need to write a list of signals sent from the controller to the disk drive
so that you understand that there is no provision for resetting the disk drives?
There is only control of the stepper motor, the number of the active drive, turning on
the motor, and the data being written. Have you even seen tr-dos without an emulator?
It works perfectly with 3.5 as well as with 5.25 and does not “initialize
the disk drive” in any way, except that it drives the heads back and forth.

And all the nonsense about initialization came from the pisyuk - RTFM docks to its

He. Mine has a regular door. It's called D509/V3 - imho the best flop for Spec.
It works in DD, and in HD too.
And that glitch with Max Petrov's commander and on 3.5" flops from Mitsumi

to a disk error or reset. But on tr-dos 5.04 everything is ok. Well, with a screw in gusto

Well, here is the first interested person.

I, as one of the authors of this Dos, will tell you what I remember:

1. Added the ability to write/read VG ports. I don’t remember which addresses, but
it’s easy to see.
2. The turbo-load/save procedures are inserted into the input of which only the data
type is given - HL, where
DE,trk&sec
B, how many
A, drive
call #xxxx calling the load/save procedure
which makes it possible to easily disk toys with loads.
3. You can load and save pictures like this - load/save "screen" SCREEN$ and that's it.
4. Fixed a head positioning error when reading a large number of
sectors.
5. When resetting to DOS, the "A" and "B" keys select the default drive.
6. When writing a file to a disk with an existing name, a request is now issued -
overwrite Y/N?.
7. Three “MAGIC” procedures, after pressing NMI, a key press is expected - caps,
symbol or space, but I don’t remember what each of them does.

I don’t remember anymore. All of the above applies to version 6.08, I can’t say anything about 6.09

This version has not yet been completed to the bitter end, it makes sense to have a lot of checks, etc. Driver support for PUSHER v6.xx has not yet been activated.
And another thing is that T-REX began development, and now it has been handed over to me without a single
message about innovations.
However, I can tell you something:

1. The dosa has its own procedure for printing a symbol, which significantly increases
the speed of operation.
2. All DOS commands are displayed in bold font.
3. There is a transition to the desired drive when resetting the car by holding down
the corresponding keys.
4. For PC keyboard users, the F1-Fxx keys work, one of them is stopping the program at any time during operation and exiting to bass mode.
5. The kit includes another bell with a converted STS monitor, which
can edit kmos and much more.

This is only a small part of what is generally implemented in it, I just don’t remember.

The ports in Scorpio are made on 2 KP11 too, but imho, in addition to the keyboard and
Campston, there is now something else used with TR-DOS. :-) In Leningrad, the ports were easily normalized; at the OE input, in place of IORQ+RD
another mixture of A0+A5 was added (I think LI1 element, I don’t remember exactly right now).
KP commutation remained along A0. It worked perfectly and did not pollute all ports.

Now it’s easy to remember, G) but then it was a whole problem :)

we open the Scorpa circuit.
And we see that with an active DOS signal when accessing ports
for which A1=1 the /CSIOD signal has the audacity to be equal "1",
due to which D55 (the decoder of the main ports) is blocked.

so that it does not work “on all scorps”.
I don’t know about the kai.
And a mule is a mule, to glitch.

And to completely prove that you are wrong, think:
_WHY_ in TR-DOS control on BREAK is done like this:
go to _regular_ ROM at the address.... I don’t remember what the polling address is BREAK

what about port #1F?
And blocking is also needed to ensure that there are no conflicts
ports due to coincidence of addresses or due to incomplete decryption.
And a “normal _external_ device” is obliged to block
ports to avoid!

The clavier is only blocked in tricky cases, for those machines that were originally tap machines, and then a controller was connected to them. There, two places were cut on the board: OE ROM and IORQ, and signals were sent there from the controller. When
TR-DOS was running, IORQ went only to the controller, and did not return to the computer.
:-) Moreover, about 50 to 50 normal connections of the controller to the left ones.

two nights. :-)

This doesn’t bother anyone, however. You won't find joysticks with 4 buttons; connecting them to the Spectrum is useless.

Laim. Not blocked. Did you press MAGIC? And it clicks pages.

AM> so it doesn’t work “on all scorpions.”

RTFM. etc...

Everything works. I have Scorpio and TR-DOS 5.12. And so I press the buttons in it
and they are pressed. And the buttons THERE DIRECTLY IN TR-DOS BY COMMAND IN A, (#FE) are read.
I don’t mean the command line, but the service after magic and X-COPY.

Look at the diagram more carefully - there A0 is separately connected to LI1, probably
I don’t remember exactly. It is necessary just so that MOA CAN READ KLAW IN TENEVIKE!!! Or is your keyboard not working in your shadow and you still struggle with the mouse?

AM> As for the kai, I don’t know.

I know for sure. It works there too, I checked my ROM there.

AM> And the mule is just a mule, to glitch.

But I don’t check anything in the mule, TRDOS is not emulated in any emulator
correctly.

I advise you to look at the diagram of a regular scorpion, and then explain where the joke is.

[ ]
KF> Look at the diagram more carefully - there A0 is separately wound up on LI1
KF> probably,

A0 is wound up directly on ID7
A ID7 opens when IORQCE is called, A2=1 and with this plug:

┌───┐
A1 ───────────────────┤ & ├──────── on ID7 (4)
┌─┤ │
│ └───┘D32
“0” goes here when └────┐
selection #3d?? ┌───────┐ │
──┤S ├───┘
│ │
/WAIT─┤C │D58
──┤D │
│ │
/RES ──┤R o──────── /DCDOS
└───────┘

In order to open ID7 you need to make “0” on its 4th leg
This is achieved either A1=0 or an inactive DOS

Come to your senses!!!
the netevik is not in TR-DOS at all!!!!

Will a joystick from Dandy do?
(Take it, gut it, and connect it)
but about “useless” - I’m wrong.
Can I dare myself to write a program that give
a four-button joystick?

But the main problem is not this: the fact that Zonov hooked up something else to
unused bits to reduce small circuits -
this is understandable, not a problem.
But the fact that the software climbs to the “left” bits of the ports, and nowhere
the presence of this is not documented - suck.
It’s probably very interesting to those who book about SMUG I upgraded
my computer to scorpion ;-)

Ah, cool idea! And when I was tinkering with the yellow board without a circuit diagram, just these CPs flew out, because a man was resoldering a Kempston with a big funny soldering iron, so I saw strange signals on the high bits. :-)

I don’t see anything complicated in connecting joysticks from DENDy/SEGA/AMIGA to the
Spectrum - neither from the hardware side, nor from the software side.

Best regards, Dmitry.

what's cool here?
Just that they saved a chip or two...
But the best thing is that 2 ROMs of 2.95 MOA poll port #1F (Kempston)
precisely for the presence of these bits!
I.e. checks the readiness of VG'hi from BASIC.
As a result, when upgrading computers to scorpion, you have to
forcibly duplicate port #FF TR-DOS to #1F BASIC ;(
