From Alexander Sharihin → To All 18 June 2004
People, I dug up a Seagate 40MB screw, I want to connect it to my pro (I have 4
versions, therefore there are no screws), please advise a circuit (proprietary
Profovsky or Nemovsky or someone else's thread) so that it would be really
usable (at least as a storage unit for trd, and even better - so that you can
work with it as equally as with a floppy disk)
Bye!

Right now I’ll tell you more precisely what kind of screw "ST35i a/x" (or ST351 a/x you can't tell)
I would like to know what its jumps mean...
Thank you all in advance, because I know that they will not refuse me information!

st351a/x is an IDE 8-bit screw. The type is essentially designed for an 8-bit bus. All controllers on Specki were made 16bit, so you won’t be able to get it to work without a homemade controller and patch software IMHO. Although, on the other hand, the controller for it is a regular address and control bus decoder
without any additional registers; You can easily find in the Internet the schemes for trimming an 8-bit IDE, also Acorn BBC model B, and just remake the sub-spec yourself. Then all that remains is to patch the driver for IS-DOS or SP-DOS.
Regards.

Exactly????? :<<<<
Are you kidding? :<<<<
And NemoIDE? He, too, could take 40-meter screws (or were there 16-bit 40
meters?)
If not, then I’ll have to insert back into my 286...

Unfortunately, there is no Internet for me!
So it’s easy...

To be honest? And who is “Acorn BBC model B”?
If you can throw at me a diagram for connecting a screw to at least this machine...

Who has experience patching IS-DOS/SP-DOS? :>
If there is a programmer who can help me with this, I will be very grateful!!!!!

I think there was a certain Peter Putnik, he made some kind of ide 8-bit...(if possible, throw it at me)

There were ATA controllers for the eight-bit ISA (I found
several models in Total Hardware). In addition, ATA allows you to transfer data not in words, but in
bytes...
Good luck!

There is no need to change the controller. Driver only. For example, Nemovsky would be suitable.

Only this mode is not

(1) Bus reset active level. System dependent. A jumper must be
installed on either Bus Reset Hi or Bus Reset Low; the
drive will not function if neither set of pins is
jumpered.
(2) HSP/Assert "/DASP" signal: pin 39 on 40-pin AT/AT
Interface connector. The Host Slave Present jumper and the
Active LED jumper are mutually exclusive.
(3) XT only. These jumpers are used to set the drive type
information to be returned by the drive via the Drive

Note: A "custom" or "user-defined" CMOS drivetype may ask for a
numerical value for the Write Precompensation cylinder and for the
Landing Zone cylinder. A basic rule-of-thumb for drive models that do
not require the old Write Precomp technique or a Landing Zone because
they are Auto-Parking is to add 1 to the cylinder value being used. As
an example: If cylinders equaled 820, then both Write Precomp and
Landing Zone would be entered as 821. Some BIOS will convert this to
65535 or -1, which are functionally equivalent to "none (not used)".

ZBR = Zone Bit Recording = Variable sectors per track
Already low-level formatted at the factory for AT installations.
Since a User-definable or Custom translation geometry may be used, it
is imperative that the values be written down and kept with your
permanent records for retrieval in the event of CMOS battery failure.
