FPM version?.??-who's new?
ZXNet echo conference «real.speccy»
From Alexander Kormishin → To All 17 August 1998
Hello to you, All!
Kirill Frolov gave me an idea.
Max is only tested on Pentagon-512. It would be nice to use it on other cars as well. Otherwise, we’ll insert it into the firmware, and there will be glitches!
First of all, I want to apologize for unauthorized interference in
someone else’s program to the author, Max Petrov (if that’s his
real name). I still don’t know how to contact him, so
who knows - help! I don’t
feel any special remorse - the source code (in the decompile) is not squandered and
I don’t receive any commercial benefit for correcting program glitches.
But I do have fun - I’ve already learned so much! :)
Besides, I’m not doing this only for myself.
I, of course, understand that changing someone else’s code is not good. honestly, I wanted (and want) the best. I still hope that the author will at least get angry with me and return to Speck - continue to create masterpieces and finish writing this wonderful commander. We are waiting.
In the meantime, he shows obvious indifference to the Spectrum, I will continue
to continue to expand the FPM, I really like it :).
That's it, I've poured it out.
Now actually: a short help on the commander. Obviously incomplete,
since during the year of intensive use we constantly
found something new in it. I found the last one just a week
ago - who would have thought that a disk couldRESTOR from
the first marked file?!
First about the new one. this is viewing pictures (key "k", 27 sectors are displayed on the screen
starting from the trk/sec file on which
the cursor is located), launching a code file ("u", the address is taken from the
directory, sp:=this address, #7ffd:=#10,jp to this address). The mode
of working with extended memory (128/max) is switched ss+p (needed
for a ramdisk and the default firmware is 128, so as not to
slow down :). Re-reading the disk on drives A...D - keys
1...4, respectively, or select the desired drive (cs+1), and then
poke the mouse on "1-new" or immediately press the middle button.
Select flop "output" - ss+1..4 directly or select using
cs+2.
You can now mark files with the mouse without constantly torturing right
button, and press once and move the mouse down or up (a la
FPM3.05).
Full-fledged operation with four flops has been implemented, with
A and B working under the control of a turboloader, and C and D - under
#3d13 - made mainly for the ramdisk.
To enter the marking mode, you can now press the right button on the file window
and the left button to exit).
Now the max_free_sec of the disk is _not_2544_sec. I had to do this
because of the same ramdisk (it has a maximum of 1520 sec).
Now max_size is not calculated based on the first free
trk/sec, but is taken from the catalog.
Now some non-obvious things forfor those who have not seen
FPM before:
mark: with the mouse, see above or ENTER.
launch: also ENTER or using the hotkeys visible to the left
of the leftmost column. To launch a file from the middle
column, press CS+A..V. To launch in the 48th mode, press "0".
turning pages: cs+3,cs+4 or click with the mouse in the upper/lower
half... third of the screen (you can’t call it a window:).
selecting INPUT/OUTPUT DRIVE with the mouse: just click at
the corresponding position (the upper half of the right third of the screen)
and that's it.
In the "XCARE" menu: Keep - writing the directory to trk161/sec7 (at first
the track will be formatted)
rEstore cat - restoring the directory from 161/7
So: almost all functions are accessible with the mouse, except new ones. Here
excuse me - most likely it won’t happen - two lines of commands
are inconvenient to work with. I saw how it works in FPM3.05 - as long as
you fall with the mouse...
I especially warn you: in the commander there are initially no all sorts of reinsurance-double-checks, which are, for example, in CONVER,
so BE IN THE OWNER, ALL and watch your hands :). For example, I destroyed so many directories in the first month of using FPM (although I restored them all
with it :) that I now have a reflex - every
week I save directories on working disks (by the way, I don’t regret it).
And one more thing: Pro-ram is not supported (yet), I keep forgetting that
I already have a pro meter :).
Okay, that’s enough. With the rest, I hopeYou'll figure it out for yourself.
I'm putting it in the echo without permission, because... firstly, the file size is less than
20k, secondly, FPM seems to have been freeware for a year already.
I would like to thank Ikolay Maslennikov (2:4616/12.19) and
Roman Milyukov for their patience in beta testing and useful
advice. Thank you!
y, that's it. Goodbye, All.
Sincerely, Sasha aka AXLR.
