Dickie: Zmodem trouble...

ZXNet echo conference «real.speccy»

From Felix Knajzev To All 22 May 1999

Greetings, oh venerable All!

Subject question for owners of 2400/mnp/v42bis modems:

I have an LTI-9624HV-B modem (2400/mnp/v42bis). As you know,
Zmodem in Wild downloads in a continuous stream, IMHO, i.e.
it does not send confirmation of correct receipt after
each block. Not like in Melon, in a word.
On a fairly “clean” line, this protocol works well,
and the cps on it is higher than in Melon. ;) But sometimes (during reception)
the message 'Data CRC error' appears and then a lot of other
error messages. :(
There is no way to get out of these 'errors' - the session
ends with me hanging up, I have
to call back. :( It has been established that something like this (the appearance of the first
Data CRC error) occurs due to interference on the line. That's what I
can't understand: the modem has an error correction protocol, right? So why can't it
correct these same errors?
Although, of course, if there is a complete mess on the line, then only
The courier can handle it :) The connection takes place on v42bis, and it, IMHO, “transfers” data blocks, i.e.
at the protocol level it is possible to send blocks that
were received with an error. somewhere) is configured, right? Question: how can the settings of the modem be cured?subject and is it possible to do this at all?
I have one assumption left that my subject (another
similar thing is observed with Vlad Zinuk, he has the same modem)
arises due to incorrect settings of the modem.

If anyone downloads mail with a subject on approximately the same modem as
mine, then please share the modem profiles or the
initialization string for him. Or tell me how to overcome the subject in other ways.

p.s. The modem is connected according to the MK circuit with interrupts (nmi used).
I am locking the port to 4800, but in Wild it doesn’t work anymore.
There are no hardware problems with the interface! On a “clean” line, I repeatedly leaked 300-400 KB without a single error.

Sincerely, Felix.

What kind of messages? If these are not timeouts, then it’s difficult to understand.

I had such a problem on an offtopic and was cured by replacing the software.
I know one thing for sure - no left characters
come from the modem. The modem’s CPS may drop for a few seconds, maybe Dickie
reacts incorrectly to this?

Then it will just hang until NO CARRIER or endless attempts
will connect again.

IMHO no.

FK> p.s. The modem is connected according to the MK scheme with interrupts (nmi used).

You have anomalies with NMI...

FK> I am locating the port at 4800, in Dikiy it doesn’t work anymore.

That’s also strange.

No, not timeouts.

After the 'CRC error...' comes a bunch of this:

'Byte XXXXX retry Y: Garbage count exceeded'

I have little choice. ;)

Yes, indeed. I checked.

What the setup is needed for - I know. ;) When experimenting with
this very setup, the settings regarding zmodem did not work, IMHO, as they should. :(

And I somehow already failed with these settings (zmodem_rxwindow,
zmodem_txwindow) - I uncommented them. There I had
a fixed window size for both reception and transmission - 1024.
So in this case zmodem was buggy when transmitting “from me”:
windows were transmitted “one by one”. :(

2MK: So have you thought about it? %-)

I have now uncommented zmodem_rxwindow (fixed window size for reception only. As I understand these lines of the cfg file),
set it to 1024. It seems that CPS naturally dropped a little. without
AG> waiting this volume
AG> and on the last block 'from the given window 'it will wait

You wanted to say: "...and after receiving the given window it
will wait for confirmation..." ;)

AG>.confirmation....and this will be the case for each window

p.s. Did you observe the subject? With the above lines commented out,
naturally.

What was the timeout?

Set it to 20 seconds.

I also have it plugged in there and no crc error, it pumps as it should... And
hydra...(though it doesn’t quite pump and flood at the same time) ;)

With best wishes, Dmitry.

And you will never wait for them. :) For the dosx version under SMUC, everything
works without interruptions at all.

AG> although if you set the receiving window to 1 kilometer then everything is ok, but with
AG> transmission I tried something, there were really glitches, I window

Try it like I have now:

;ZMODEM_TXWINDOW 1024
; if this ^^^ uncomment, then glitches during transmission.
ZMODEM_RXWINDOW 1024
;so cps dropped from 270 (on zip archives) to 200. The subject has not been
;observed yet...

AG> set it to 1 kilo, but it sent 512 bytes and somehow

Maybe without a protocol connected?

From Alex Noman To All 27 May 1999

FK> Maybe you connected without a protocol?

An error correction protocol or without a protocol at all? :)) Then how did you connect? :)

FK> Sincerely, Felix.

With respect, Alex Noman.

Hello, how to set the kna size to 1024k and where? otherwise it’s really necessary

Wait, there was a special version for SMUK. Or is it just buggy?!!

All the best.
Sincerely Roman.
