Dickie
ZXNet echo conference «real.speccy»
From Vova Bakum → To All 12 January 1999
Once on 10 Jan 99 at 23:17:39 I saw Andrey Isaev write a Vova Bakum
message on the topic "Dickie".
I decided to add some heat to this dialogue...
VB>>>> Even more than that - 57600 easily, without a turbo. But... There is
VB>>>> one
VB>>>> H O.
VB>>>> Melon works _WITHOUT_ interruptions from the modem, which is why
VB>>>> the bytes that came from the modem “disappear”. And with interruptions -
VB>>> there are naturally no problems...
AI>>> No, well, I still doubt this speed and I
AI>>> have
AI>>> for that reason, then
AI>>> that someone says this is one thing, but what I observe in
AI>>> myself is another.
VB>> I meant 57600 - the loading speed port. And the modem is
VB>> me
VB>> -
VB>> UMC 14400.
AI> Locking IMHO and for a hundred can only be of any use?
:) For a hundred of what? Bucks?;) If at 115200, then this is for 33600 modems. Modems on
14400 can't handle more than 57600 slots.
And the only benefit is the gain in speed.
VB>> If you are interested in my circuit design for interruptions -
VB>> I can share...
AI> Of course, it’s gone, suddenly something brand new.
You take a 315 transistor. You connect the INT
modem to the base via the 1-com connection. You connect the collector to the INT processor. Emitter to ground.;)
That's the whole solution. The kind guy RST7 told me this.
It couldn’t be simpler.
Good Bye, Andrey! With best wishes, Vova Bakum aka (R)soft.
From Vova Bakum → To All 12 January 1999
VB>>>> heads up the idea of hanging modem interrupts on NMI. I have never seen a more crappy
VB>>>> solution. Set it to INT and EVERYTHING!
VB>>>> First
VB>>>> programmatically disable interrupts from ULA.
VB>>>> It works without problems - tested.
KF>>> And if there is no UL in the computer?
VB>> Of course there is no UL. I put it figuratively. I meant
VB>> cut off
VB>> interrupts that go to INT 50 times/sec.
KF> And if you cut them off, how will the keyboard work and
KF> time to move forward?
You know, if you say that... :)
The keyboard is polled when you need it. And not according to INT.
Time has always moved forward and will continue to move forward - this is
not necessary in the terminal. The most reliable clock is CMOS.
Everything works...
KF> The idea of reading the keyboard without interruptions is not the best, but counting
What is the argument?
KF> time by clock
KF> of the processor is a more crazy idea than connecting
KF> interrupts to NMI.
Yes? Count time WHAT? (or WHOM?;)
VB>> In principle, I tried to simply “mix” modem interrupts
VB>> with
VB>> INT - it also works. But at high speeds there will probably be
VB>> troubles. I haven't tested it yet.
KF> I tried it too - it works. But I'm 99% sure
KF>percent that at high
KF> speeds frame interrupts will be skipped. But this and
KF> this happens when
KF> is used by NMI - there, after all, IFF1 in the
KF> processor is reset, and by the time the
KF> processor reaches the INT processing program, it will have already ended.
Well, NMI has the highest priority (of course after RESET;)!
And as for high speeds - these are 33600 modems with
locking speed 115200. I haven’t tried this option - there is no such
modem.
KF> I simply identified interrupts - I asked the momed. If
KF> the momed wants it, then it's
KF> an interruption from the momed, otherwise it's a frame tick.
Well, that's how I defined it too - there's a bit there.
KF> But those who like the magic button don't need to press it
KF> --
KF> I don't know how it is on other computers, but in Scorpio the shadow
KF> just hangs on
KF> endless interruptions.
These are subtleties.
KF>>> You try to explain this to software writers.
VB>> Explain what? Maybe I'll try. ;)
KF> The fact that hanging on NMI is a very crazy idea. And nada
2ALL: It’s a very crazy idea to hang it on NMI.
(It looks like I’m not convinced ;) I don’t want to explain obvious things...
or maybe I can’t... ;) I’m lame in general.
KF> hang it on INT and
KF> knead - there’s no need to disable anything. But if it’s too much
Still, I think it should be turned off. Although...
KF>you need to distinguish between everything,
KF> then you can make a simple circuit for full
KF> use of the IM_2 mode.
At the moment of modem interruption, set your
vector to the data bus? Next is a table of vectors - for the modem and for the ticker.
You can try. Maybe I should even try.
I'll think about it. If the system INT is not disabled, then
I now know how CPS can be measured. (And without a system
interruption it’s bad;)
By the way, I remembered. You don’t know how to use TR-DOS with IM2?
Otherwise there’s a small problem in the terminal (a slowdown, to be exact).
You need to switch to IM1 for TR-DOS.
Good Bye, Kirill! With best wishes, Vova Bakum aka (R)soft.

Well, I still don’t understand why int is better than nmi?

On the plus side, of course. ;)
