Something like web pages on Spectrum...
ZXNet echo conference «real.speccy»
From Yuri Ankudinov → To All 4 February 2000
────════ Hello, All! ════────
Why not do something like the Internet on the spectrum - write 3
software:
- Custom SPbInterZXNet Explorer: dials the station, downloads the
page, if there are links to another board (to another page boards - then it comes from a fresh BBS sheet, and then the software automatically calls and downloads. And if you chip in all of ZXNet on a computer with a screw, then you can just make a big server. And you pay for access by the minute, but not at such terrible prices as on the Internet. Payment for. purchasing the next server
SPbInterZXNet
- Server option. Something like a BBS, but it serves the user and is a search and reference system.
- Web page editor, the simplest software.
Now the price of the machine for the server.
If we take the minimum:
Scorpio ZS......I don’t know the price
Monitor...............300 p maximum
Modem..............150-200 p
SMUC...................I don’t know
Screw for meters for 600..700 rubles
________________________________________________
Total: 1200+(1000 maximum for scorp + SMUC)
2200 divided by 50-100 people on the network it turns out 22-50 rubles from the nose and
the server is ready. And for those who chip in - free access to the server with a limit of
hours per day and ???everything. For a period of a week, a month, a year. Depending on
ypayment. And you can put a lot of information from the Internet on a spec web server! And
all this will be available on the spectrum. Plus something like an e-mail... Moreover, the letter
reaches the addressee in a couple of seconds... In general, gentlemen, maybe someone will take it, I would be happy to participate...
Well, okay, I'm off... oooO Oooo
In general, that's all for you, Yurik. | / \ |

Well, just the Internet by phone...

Why is this necessary? Why do something that has been done for a long time, especially since you can use
this miracle only with Spectrum. Then you need to create a normal Internet browser on Spectrum (well, html + what other protocols are there? + transport
level). And the server is also on Spectrum. But how can you connect it to the Internet?and the provider has it, just not a big one.

Nevertheless, it will be an ordinary BBS! Well, why use HTML on the BBS? For
beauty? Well maybe. But just call a spade a spade, it
is not as cool as you described. You can just install BBS and it will be
the same. Moreover, there is 24h bbs on the spectrum (vicom modem) in St. Petersburg
, there is a screw there for ~200 meters. Works on MMD 4.00.
YA> Plus something like e-soap... Moreover, the letter reaches the addressee in

The Internet and E-soap differ in one very global thing:
YOU YOU CAN CONNECT WITH ANY COMPUTER IN THE WORLD CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET,
IN REAL TIME.
And the BBS is just a big file dump. Of course, there are
analogies with FTP servers, the difference in principle is not great - in one case
you work via the Internet, in the other via the telephone network.
And here is the problem, forusing the telephone network the payment is _more_,
unless of course you are in the same city where the server is located.
And there is also a difference between one server and the entire Internet. Your server
will only contain what is on it (logical, right?). And through the Internet you
have access to not only what is on your server, but also what is on other
servers.
========================
And now it’s not entirely clear what you wanted to say, I still don’t understand
the purpose
of this incomprehensible server. BBC? BBC is possible. You need someone to take care of this,
you need to pay for the telephone line (the biggest expense), the computer and
maintain
it in working order. But is this necessary?
Maybe I’m just slowing down and don’t understand anything, try to explain better...
If this BBS is connected to the Internet, then it will be a completely different matter!
But I’m afraid it will all come down to money right away.
... no day without speccy!

I didn’t know ;-))) I thought it was one big BBS, the cat is at Bill Gets's house

Yes, in principle, you can do it in a local sense - in St. Petersburg. Collect a thread somewhere
a couple servers, connect them with a NULL modem and off you go!
KF> And here is the problem, for using the telephone network you pay

And give you a worldwide network for three and a half computers? Gon! Complete!
KF> Now it’s not entirely clear what you wanted to say, I still didn’t understand
So I didn’t read it well. I explain - to combine here everything that is onSpectrum,
on Spectrum, about Spectrum, for Spectrum. For example, everything that you download you
can be seen visually - in the HTML you can put a screenshot from the game, etc.
KF> the purpose of this incomprehensible server. BBC? BBC is possible. You need

BBS - this is BBS. If you want a cooler BBS, call MASU.

That’s for sure - you’re slowing down... ;-)

But the question - to hell with. And how will you do this?
KF> But I’m afraid it will all come down to money right away.
Exactly!

Why not immediately download it from the Internet?

But there is only one computer and one line.
_/-----------/_ <- pay attention - ONE LINE.
YA> convert just text - you can compile a lot of pages. And if
YA> you also convert pictures - a little slower! But the essence is the same - something like
YA> on the Internet, but it can be done for spec. But you can put everything you need
YA> there: abstracts, etc.
This fits perfectly on any BBS like MAXIMUS or PROBOARD.
YA> And on the board of the spec board there is not even primitive color graphics.
Why is it there? is it necessary there? There is, for example, FTP - take it and download...
If you really want pictures, then download the graphics, disconnect and watch.
But you offer ON-LINE access, this is not profitable, so you need
a free line for every 10 users. The user will hang on this server for 10 hours a day
and watch pictures, the amount of information transmitted
by the modem will be negligible. This is an irrational use of the server.
YA> So much for 4.00, which, by the way, slows down.
Wellso... *MAS*tdie in one word ;-) It’s not the MMD that slows down, but the driver.
YA> And the entire web page is loaded for you and you work with it.
Well, you download the necessary pages and look. Why an online
browser?
YA> Why not do it then at 4.00 so that it simply
YA> transmits the program to the user, and the program works and just throws pairs of
YA> bytes to indicate the user’s actions?
And I’m generally against this and all kinds of JAVA too. This is a potential danger
for the user. Spectrum and HTML are enough. In extreme cases, a language that does not give 100%
control over the user's machine, but not machine code.
YA> I didn't know ;-))) I thought it was one big BBC, the cat I have at Bill
YA> Gets at home ;-))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
The unfortunate guy beat Gates (written with one "l") ;-)
YA> Yes, in principle, you can do it in the local sense - in St. Petersburg. Collect
YA> somewhere a couple of servers, connect them with a NULL modem and off you go!
A server can become one computer with some randomly
falling axis. You need to attach a Wicomm to it somehow.
But the server will be $300, and phones for it are easily another $1000.
Maybe, of course, I’m exaggerating and for a server three or four rubles will do,
then $100.

lamo, no one has connected to the Spectrum 2400 for a long time. everyone is on 9600 and above.

1. I’m not your “lamo”.
2. Look in the English dictionary - I think this is more suitable for you
if only because I know spektrumists with 2400 modems.
3. Finally, I wrote that a 2400 modem would be enough and that’s exactly what
I had I mean, what's your answer here?
From Sergey Zotov → To All 22 February 2000
And you need money. Speccy has long been the car of enthusiasts.
> 6. Something else unforeseen.
In general, don’t bend your fingers, don’t inflate the flame, but get down to business. Write the same
HTML interpreter and everyone will thank you, but for now NOTHING!!!

SZ> 8) What’s your maths? Where do these numbers come from?
The Pentium costs so much now. This is the real price for a system unit
with everything you need from the price list of not the coolest company. Well, how much does it cost
to install a telephone in a place where there are never free numbers you
you know...

Good, we saved money. But this same lawyer won’t do this.
>> 2. You need a car.
SZ> Doesn’t anyone have them?
Only if at home or at work. But this will 100% only work at night.
>> 3. You need several phones.
SZ> The ideal case is someone at work.
Again, most likely only at night.
