CD-WALK v1.1
ZXNet echo conference «real.speccy»
From Vlad Sotnikov → To All 18 July 2001
Today I riveted the subject. He will go to Newska. It differs from the previous program in that the minimum requirements for its operation have changed. Due to numerous requests, the check for Scorpio and the ProfPZU version has been removed. Now
the program (theoretically) should work on any computer where:
- SMUC is plugged into the connector
- in the TR-DOS ROM (not necessarily Prof!) at address #3FF0 a
sequence of the following 6 bytes is placed (they are all checked): #ED, #79, #C9,
#ED, #78, #C9.
I haven’t started supporting the Nemo controller yet, because I don’t have time - on Monday I’m leaving for a camp to work as a counselor ("Vozpozhdenie", a camp near Roshchino). As a result of this, I will temporarily disconnect from oh. So if anything happens, in a couple of days I will need to write only with soap. And the next version of the program
(with support for 2 controllers - CD-WALK v1.2). I'll scatter it all over the net.

Yo!!! Cool!!! Owners of Pentgons with SMUC started dancing ;)))
However, you can try to further reduce the requirements ;)
Apparently there are other Tr-Dos firmwares, which also have procedures
reading/writing to ports (In HOBBITs, ATM-turbo, Profi(?), etc), and naturally
since there is no standard, these procedures can be located anywhere, but this
after all will not prevent them from working normally ;)
I propose to give the owners of these units a chance not to reflash the TrDos
ROM when installing SMUC.
To do this (if the detective has already searched for these procedures at #3ff0 and
didn’t find them), you just need to transfer all the TrDos-ROMs somewhere into RAM
(after thoroughly torturing the restart from = #13), and then search there them separately:
byte sequence #ed, #78, #c9, and then #ed, #78, #c9.
Then the program will work on computers with any TrDos firmware, where
there are procedures for reading/writing to ports lying around somewhere, which, imho, may
induce the above-mentioned comrades to purchase SMUC...
...Perversion of course, but what to do? ;)))

I can imagine what this torment will turn into. 1024 times 16 bytes from ROM
pull. You can, of course, use the built-in LDIR, but only in different versions it is located in different places. And in general this is a perversion. IMHO, it is much easier
to find out the existing standards of other common ROMs (Profi, etc.), and
justsupport them.

It will be easier for these comrades to purchase a Nemo controller later when I'll support him. It is cheaper, soldered easily and does not require access from under
TR-DOS. So you won’t have to touch the ROM at all.
IV> ...It’s a perversion, of course, but what to do? ;)))
As I said above. :)

In general, I advise you to read the interview with Rst7 vs comrade Zonov in Spectrum Expert1.
Buying smuk for the sake of copying files from a CD, _IMHO_ is the same as watching
TV without sound;( This is exactly what I meant when I said “too

who has them working now??? in the pros there is a standard 5.04t by C.C. 1991
where there are no such commands at all, on 5.12, 5.13f, 5.13fm, which have become more or less
some kind of standard, these commands sit in the same place as the scorpion.

change the hardware
s: on the cd mma there is a 512kb romka for scorpion, apparently it is impossible to run it in the emulator
no matter how hard I tried..., I also couldn’t figure out the professional software version.

You'll probably see it on CC'oo1 ;) I think I read about this configuration in
Melon's instructions.
VK> In general, I advise you to read the interview with Rst7 vs comrade Zonov in
VK> Spectrum Expert1.
Well, “Rst7 vs Zonov” is too strong a word, Rst is completely on
autopilot, and in my opinion Zonov’s phrase “a person is about to run out of batteries”
could not refer to the operator at all ;)
And Kan0, such a frame, aka back at Enlight'96 he muddied the waters in a similar way.
But how does all this relate to subj?
VK> Buying smuk for the sake of copying files from a CD, _IMHO_ is all
VK> the same as watching TV without sound;( This is exactly what I
VK> meant when I said “too expensive a pleasure.”
Just the opposite, this is sound without a TV ;)))
But! In addition to copying files from CD, SMUC without ProfROM is also a carefree
installation of Modem, CMOS, interrupt controller (plus the theoretical possibility
of using an HDD marked on Scorpion, if you tweak
VEGA-COMMANDER a little).
From Vassili Klimov → To All 22 July 2001
IV> What's the difference??? Can you guarantee 100% that _absolutely_ no one has such computers? ;) Even nearby - in Yekaterinburg, the most common computer is "Quorum". Do you know its architecture thoroughly?
IV> A
hehe, who told you that?;)
IV> where is the guarantee that there are not yet crowds of local clones of spec throughout Russia? There are no

I said about the pros, ATM seems to have them, about the rest I can say that
they were made back in the days when they didn’t hack DOS, but just flashed
standard 5.03 and 5.04T (some even had 5.01), so with a high degree of
probability we can say that there are no such commands on clones.

IV> it is possible to save someone from the headache and expense of flashing the ROM
IV> Tr-Dos! And no matter how hard I try, I cannot discern a single reason why
IV> this cannot be done ;)
I have at least a dozen programs that have not gone further than my disks,
because they are strictly tailored for my computer. Well, I’m such a lazy coder that it’s too hard for me to finish it - to cut up the interface, unify the work with disk drives and
memory, writehelp on the buttons finally... And you propose a more or less
full-fledged program to redo and redo. Not a single author, and even for free, will agree to this, or even just spit and forget about everything;(
Maybe I’m wrong (coz, people don’t judge by themselves;-), but I seem to have the right to express my point of view:)

you have such people close to you, and you were probably born with a soldering iron in
your hands...
but here the last tinsmith who dealt with Specs stopped working a year ago, and now finding someone who can, and most importantly wants, is very
problematic, although it is possible...
and for me to solder, it’s better to immediately process the computer with a blowtorch - so that didn't

And you can also hang up the screw, write firewood and use is-dos. Imho if So
to judge, no one needs the Nemov controller either, because tr-dos doesn’t support it at all. And SMUC, at least on Scorp. Moreover, although Nemov’s
can be soldered, not everyone can do it, and its price is better than SMUC’s. In short, having SMUC, you have much more opportunities to use it (clocks and isa again). slot) than any other hdd controller.
