ZXNet echo conference «real.speccy»

From Vlad Sotnikov To All 24 September 2001

Hello All!

I'm interested in everyone's opinion about the subject. The program flew away in an echo, and
no responses... :-|

?! It didn’t seem like...

That’s all for me. Bye, Vlad!

According to your advice, everyone is waiting for the release of ZXNews55 before connecting
CD-ROM;))

I wish you good luck!
Sincerely, Fyodor Odegov aka FION.

Clear, in short! :) Here's the thing: on Chaos I talked with the editor of ZxNews
about the subject. He said that the newspaper is planned for release in the next 2
weeks, and if it does not come out within this period, then I can distribute the program.
The newspaper, as you know, has not been published. But then my computer temporarily crashed, and until now I have disappeared from the networks. A friend of mine abandoned the program. But, as
it seems to me, it was distributed locally: only on ZxNet.

At the moment there are 2 versions:
- CD_WALK v1.0, a version that requires Scorpio and Professional ROM not lower than 4.01.
- CD_WALK v1.1, a version that only requires SMUC, and ROM, where at address #3FF0 there are subroutines for reading/writing to ports. I
delivered the bytes in the echo.

In both versions there is a documented bug: if the request
"Copy TRD?" you answer “no”, the program is happily reset. The glitch is not fatal, but is annoying at times. I would fix it, but I don’t want to change the version
because of such a small thing.

The next version (1.2) will support open TR-DOS ports and
NEMO controller. Version under construction. To do this, we need a person in St. Petersburg who would agree to temporarily borrow a controller to write a program. The one that was given to me turned out to benot working :(

So version 1.1 is flying to you. And remember! The CD-ROM must be connected as a
Slave. In my program, only one device is supported, and the CD, in principle, doesn’t care where to sit, and on the Master there are usually screws hanging on the controllers.
I just remembered now identification subroutine in CD_WALK - only the Slave device will be checked. I will fix it in version 1.2.

And send feedback :)

It doesn’t work for me. everything seems to be correct, CD on slave, smuc... writes -
sidir not found. Moreover, your CD player happily finds it (seeder-
TEAC) and regularly plays musical CDs. where to dig? yes, and what are the
bytes? I apparently missed how you threw them.

Doesn’t it work for all the others either?

As for the bytes - if you have a ProfPZU, then they are there. These are bytes
reading/writing ports in the tr-dos ROM at address #3FF0. And you can dig like this: there
in the beginning there are a bunch of subroutine calls, one of the calls is the definition of the CD.
The subroutine is small. Look what you have it onpops out. There, if the
CY flag is set or reset (I don’t remember what exactly), then upon exiting the
subprogram we display the message “no CD :(". Look, in general...

I can’t look - I’ve already given the CD :(

Today I connected the sidyuk (also like a slave), the same garbage :-( Model - HITACHI
8130.

It also finds it for me, but plays It’s buggy, or rather problems arise when switching tracks. Sometimes it just freezes, and sometimes it only turns on the first track, regardless of which one you chose. But sometimes everything works, although I don’t understand in what cases :)
