substitute cache instead of ROM: read from port #FB,
turn off cache: read from port #7B.

The ROM is replaced completely, i.e. you can do the following from the cache:

...
ld a,%xxx1xxxx
ld bc,#7ffd
out (c),a
ld a,#c9
ld (#3d00),a
call #3d00
...

and until we get out of the cache, the controller
ports are open - do what if you want :)

if the cache is 32K, then use bit5
#EFF7 as the most significant bit of the address (ml/st 16K).

Listen, do you fundamentally not respond to soap or does it
