From Andrew Litvinov To All 13 November 1998

Hello Kirill!

...March 08, 1998 Kirill Frolov and Andrew Litvinov were having a conversation on the topic
"Awww...":
AL>> 8 bit / 22 kHz samples sound no worse than on a good
AL>> tape recorder.
KF> They won't sound. The mafon has a range of just up to 20 kHz + X.Z. how much
KF> (I'm talking about normal, not Panasound, Yumaha, Soni etc).

Actually, yes. The sampling frequency of 22 kHz is a realistically reproduced range of 10 kHz. Not enough for a good mafon.

KF> Unless CD +/- plays normally, but it’s 16 bits.

I meant pseudo-metallic music written entirely on a computer.
It’s saxophone even with the quality of a DAT tape recorder.

As for the spectrum - I sometimes get up in the morning to the cheerful music from SoundTracker
(built-in). =)

I wish you good luck!
Andrew.

From Dmitry Lomov To All 14 November 1998

Hi, Denis!

RP>> In AY, frequencies seem to be not modulated.

DS> They are modulated. Processor.
DS> There are two methods of extracting sound on a computer - FM and samples.
DS> AY - the first. However, this is obvious, since it’s definitely not the second :-)

you forgot the third - WAVETABLE. although it is a special case of the second...

AY(ZX)=FM(PC)
GS(ZX)=WAVE(PC)
......=WAVETABLE(PC)

All the best.
Dmitry.
