ESSENTIAL QUESTION
ZXNet echo conference «real.speccy»
From Vadim Chumachenko → To All 24 January 2003
Happy New Year, All!
So, the question has arisen: what to collect?
I want to make myself a cool car, so I settled on choosing a platform:
Pentagon, ATM-Turbo, Profi, Scorpion, or something else?
i.e. It’s worth choosing a base on which the rest of the “stuffing” will be hung :)
these are: AY, SounDrive (maybe DMA Sound), 2xFDD, Mouse, 1(2)MB SIMM, etc.
what to take as a basis, and what should be taken into account? what “pitfalls” can you encounter?
why am I asking - I only dealt closely with Leningrad clones,
and worked a little with the Pentagon (with a friend:)
I will be grateful for your help in this matter.
p.s. by the way, don’t send it to the Internet :) I don’t have it :)
Sincerely, Vadim.
... Ay_Emul: Silent now...

ATM-Turbo is better - there are more glitches and the circuit is the most different (from others).

I would recommend Pentagon or Profi (4.05).

But since you want to have fun yourself, the choice is obvious - Pentagon 128
(if you can get it ready) well, there’s nothing left there except
AU obviously. so screwing it all up will bring a lot of pleasant minutes :)

Exactly! And Tr-Dos can be downloaded from a tape recorder if there is no money for a download 8-D

Pentagon and Scorpion. The first is the Pentagon, the second is Leningrad. Next, what do you like best? And you shouldn’t mess with anything exotic.

What are the problems? I personally assembled the multiport immediately after upgrading to 512kil.

Not a button, but a toggle switch. ;)
And you don’t have to switch it often. Mainly not because the program doesn't
work, but because they're playing it safe, and in general I don't remember a single program
that wouldn't work at 512.

I always have 1MB (7+6+5bits), there is a button, but I don’t use it because the gadget

What kind of switch is this?

VK> UFO-2
It works fine for me at 128 kb. Although it costs 1024kb, she doesn’t see them.
:(
SP has a demo of Mortall Kombat with large sprites and a minimum of 256kb (only
Pro). Very cool.
Sincerely, Alexey.

Only 256k and only Pro? I doubt it...

KF> What kind of switch is this?
I threw it here once, and it was published in adventurer, here is a part of that
article:
Probably many, having made
themselves a Pentagon512 memory expansion,
often, scolding the coders, click
the ON/OFF switch. And all because
it is now fashionable to refer to #7ffd by
#fd, but with mask #40 (all thanks to
Scorps with Kais and their system port
#1ffd). Example: LD a,#50:OUT (#FD),A -
turn on bank 0. Well, accordingly, for some
256/512kb, the wrong
banks start to turn on, the ramdisk gets spoiled and other nonsense.
And some even specifically (this is completely in vain) switches the memory using #fd
(Ultrasonic - digital tracker). In short
in short, this problem has been solved for a long time (I
haven’t used the pent512
on/off switch for a year and a half).
Usually the expansion scheme looks like this:
pent512 on/off
/ --T-T-┐
--------/ L---T-------------oR│T│ │
│ │ │-+ │ │ - pair of triggers
+ +5V o--===-- ------------/C│ │ │
10K │ D6 +-+ │ │
WR7ffd │ D7 ------+0│ │0+--
------------------- ---------+1│ │1+--
│ │ │ │
L-+-+--
A trigger microcircuit is usually a pair
of elements TM2 or TM9 or TM8. UTM2
inputs R (must be connected) - 1 and
13, for TM8 and TM9 - 1. Inputs C for TM2
(must be connected) - 3 and 11, for TM8
and TM9 - 9.
Modification scheme:
D7: 1533ЛЭ1
pent512 on/off
/ --T-T-┐
--------/ L---T---T--------oR│T│ │
│ │ │ +-+ │ │
+ +5V o--===-- -----------/C│ │ │
10K │ │ D6 +-+ │ │
WR7ffd │ │ ------+0│ │0+--
--------T---------- │ D7 --+1│ │1+--
│ D7.3 │ ----- │ │ │ │
│ ---┐ │ L-+-+--
+-8+1 │ L-----------------┐
│ │ o10-┐ D7.2 D7.1 │
L-9+ │ │ ---┐ ---┐ │
L--- L-6+1 │ -3+1 │ │
A13 │ o4-+ │ o1-+<+-
-----5+ │ L2+ │ \
L--- L--- \diode
Instead of D7, you can use
an inverter and element LL1 (if there are
free ones on the board). Particular attention
should be paid to signal WR7ffd. Here
is an option suitable for Pentagon
and Pros: when there is no entry to the port
WR7ffd=log.0, if yours is different, then
send WR7ffd without inversion (without
D7.3). The operating principle is as follows:
1. LD BC,#7FFD:LD A,#50:OUT (C),A
full addressing - A13=bit5,B=1 - at
output D7.1 we have logic 1, triggeris not
reset, bank #50 is turned on.
2. LD A,#50:OUT (#FD),A
addressing is short - A13=bit5,A=0
(let me remind you, the 5th bit of A is a lock
#7ffd, so it is always equal to 0)
When WR7ffd=1 is written, then
at the output D7.1 - log.0, which
resets the trigger - 6th and 7th bits. In this way, bank 0 is turned on.
Disadvantages: still does not work
UFO 2, because there, before recording in
#7ffd, a #c0 mask is applied.
