ZXNet echo conference «real.speccy»

From Sergey Selev To All 13 June 2000

I wish you good health, Anton.

One day on Wednesday, June 7, 2000 Anton Matyuhin spoke with Vitaliy Gerasin about Anketa...

VG>> Our programmers will not do anything under the
VG>> uncommon
VG>> OS. Why are they completely fools?
VG>> So our programmers will have to wait first
VG>> OS spreads, and then they will do something for the new OS, I'm telling you
VG>> that's for sure.
AM> OK, but until the OS spreads, the coders will relax and generally
AM> they might quit. That's the problem. The OS is too cumbersome
AM> and a global matter. Many may not survive. In principle
AM> I am not against it, but there are too many problems... Although, if there are
AM> those who want to, let them write. An OS is better than nothing.
There will be a new OS, but what will I do with about 200 disks with trdos
format? I’m not going to sit and rewrite the
loaders again?

Why drag old programs into the new OS? Let them remain on TR-DOS disks (or archive them and throw them onto a screw, and as needed, rewrite them again on disks). The new OS is not conceived for old programs, but for new ones, which are not satisfied with the same disk limitation of
640Kb, the inability to add a file, the non-fragmentability of the disk, the lack of
a driver system, etc.

I wish you good luck!
Sincerely, Fyodor Odegov.

From Alexander Razmayenko To All 20 June 2000

FO> Why drag old programs into the new OS? Let them do so and
hmm, I think so too - but if you do the job, then it’s more likely to _port_
to this OS IMHO... and dragging it like that - maybe it will work, maybe it won’t
I myself am a BC user (sorry if it’s off-topic) so programs are dragged there
(some and even not so many) with wild costs - one thing is wrong
the other is not that way... but delving into the executable file (in the sense of an executable module)
with a deblocher under your arm is ungrateful..
then I think it’s necessary, like in unikha - to have sources for everything and porting
even any mess from under TR-DOS to the same IS-DOS will not hurt more than
a pin prick
(afterword - all this is just an assumption since I myself alas, not a spektrumist
but only a sympathizer - since I had to say it by the way - can you advise me where
(I'm from Samara) is the best place to get good assembled ZX hardware for use..
or circuits - assemble it yourself so that)
FO> remain on TR-DOS disks (or archive them and throw them on
FO> screw, and when necessary, again on rewrite disks). The new OS is not being conceived for
FO> old programs, but for new ones, which are not satisfied with the same
FO> disk limitation of 640Kb, the inability to append a file,
and who is stopping the disk optimizer from weakening?
FO> non-fragmentable disk, no systemdrivers etc.
just think - a miracle! but the fact that the driver systems (in the sense of a standard for
those?)
no is a little worse here

FO> I wish you good luck!
FO> Sincerely, Fyodor Odegov.

with respect and pleasure I join and sign,
Alexander
