Yes, easily. The ZX review described this back in 1996.
The only thing you need is a DD floppy disk, if you don’t have one,
take an HD floppy disk and seal the window in the corner of the floppy disk with electrical tape, not the one that
is write protected, but the other one, without this the floppy disk will not work.

No problems. Just plug it in and everything.

From Max Shashkin To All 25 June 1999

It will definitely be, just be careful when connecting the connectors, as far as I remember (too lazy to open the
case) and there are no keys for these connectors. By the way,
you will need an adapter or buy a cable with
a special connector

With best wishes, Max Shashkin.

Why tape it on each disk? Wouldn't it be easier to short-circuit the limit switch in
the drive?

Have a strong connection!

Of course it will, and why not? Even 1.44 MB disks are great they work,
you just need to seal the hole.

If you're talking about a disk drive...:)
Of course. Everything connects simply - just like a 5.25 floppy drive. You only need a connector for a 3.5 drive.
And in general, I have information about 3.5 drives (everything about them:
which drives should/should not be used, which drives are good,
how to repair, etc.).

PS: I have been using the saber drive for about two years

It's easier only if you use these floppy disks only for yourself and your
friends with a also short-circuited drive. But if someone has an open
disk drive, or under emulators on other machines that use HD drives,
then it’s better to seal it. Another option is with a new drive, when
short-circuiting leads to loss of warranty on the drive.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Because of this, the use of 90% of saber drives is meaningless.
When turning off and on the power there is a 100% guarantee that the floppy disk
will be damaged. The power can be turned off at any time... Well, if
the computer operates in offline mode (for example, I stopped turning off my Spectrum altogether and go to it once every 2 days...) then if
using 3.5 drives, serious problems are possible. The power will be turned off, then turned on, the disk will be damaged and the computer will not be able to boot. :-(
Exit 2 - look for antique 5.25 disks or no less antique 3.5
disk drives that do not damage disks. Regarding reliability, IMHO, it is the same
if you use _QUALITY_ floppy disks and do not put your hands into the drive.
TEAC is the best choice, but if the heads have been adjusted at least once, then it’s better
to throw it straight away, there will be eternal problems with someone else’s disks.
Somewhere (or someone) told me that this can be treated with a zener diode on the
Over the last 6 years, I have never opened the drive doors when turning on/off everything. :-) not a single floppy disk was killed, the only
recommended thing to do is to wait until the motors stop (if there were disk operations before
shutdown).
disk drives - teac 1.44, mitsumi 1.44, epson 1.44, robotron 720, teac 720, teac
good...
DG> floppy disk inserted. It is advisable that you don’t skimp on information on it. Let's summarize the results.
There is nothing to carry out here, those who have such troubles have already run into them a long time ago.
Personally, I have a 3'5 disk drive (NEC) when turning the power off/on it doesn't
spoil the disks, but the 5'25 (Robotron) does at times. So depending on your luck...
P.S. Is this treatable? The power supply is switching from the PC, on the computer board there are +5v capacitors in bulk.
spun?..
I have (in case anyone has forgotten): drive teac1.44.
I turned the power on/off with the floppy disk inserted fifteen times,
and there was not a single bad thing on the floppy disk!!!
I checked it on different tracks. In total, there have already been 50
on/off switches. And he shoved different floppy disks - all the same -
no dead disks.
Previously it was beating, IMHO, due to the fact that there were power outages.
