==============================================================================
Hello All!
Dear Ivan!
Not everyone can use your BestView program due to
because:
1. turbo disk driver, instead of the standard #3d13.
2. size is too large due to excess functions (all
the same turbo driver, initial splashscreen, deleting files,
frequency table flip, one-frame scroll, screensaver, preview,
capture text from an arbitrary window) and support formats that
are practically not used. Also hampered by the size of help, which
never optimized for brevity and compressed by Hrust 1.x,
which is not optimal for text.
3. small buffer for text,
non-standard font typeface (due to 4x6 mask) and low text window,
which is all connected with the same one-frame scroll. We don't really need him
users.
4. unfixed pt3 player (player v3.67 recommended) and
lack of support for common formats lc5.2, rip, rar.
We assume that the reason for the above was
lack of feedback from users. This is also indicated by the fact that
there are no links to users in the change history. Please correctsituation, for which it is desirable:
1. organize a forum, mailing lists, correspondence with users.
2. fix more of the above, though
publishing another line of program compilations (if the author himself cannot
use a program that corresponds to the proposed concept).
3. start distributing the source code of the program to study it
users and their creation of more specific proposals.
We kindly ask you to publish the author’s home address/telephone number and any
other methods of communication in addition to those already published.
The appeal was drawn up on September 5, 2004 and edited on September 8.

capture) (Alone Coder's note: to delete you need rename and preferably move)
3. Nikolay Amosov (I really want to work through #3d13)
4. Kirill Frolov (no extra formats, IMHO)
5. Vladimir Karpenko
6. Pinguin aka Sharihin Alexander 2:5064/53.9 (PLUS OWN FONT!!!!)

This is the main thing. I said this back in 1998.

And because of it, it takes longer to load than it could.
DB> one-frame scroll,
You can leave it if possible.
DB> and support for formats that are practically not used.
Let them be if they don't interfere. If something happens, there’s nothing to see.
DB> 3. small buffer for text,
Yes it is. It is necessary to support the upper memory through the driver.
Then it will be possible to optionally organize something like
overlay plugins, like BGE, RC, ACE, Extractor, etc.
DB> non-standard font typeface (due to 4x6 mask)
Yes it is. The font is hard to read, I would like to replace it with an external one.DB> This appeal is signed by:

7. Jason aka Valerij Kozhevnikoff 2:5020/2065.304. You need #3d13, your own font and
Upper memory support. Frame scroll can be made optional,
the rest can be left as is.
WBR, Jason.

Yes, in order to speed up work with real disk drives. Although
Of course, it would be necessary to add support for #3D13.
WB> 2. size is too large due to excess functions
Of course, BestView cannot be used on the ZX 48K, but on
128K program works. :) A 41 KB (executable file size
BestView 2.19) - not so much for me. Only 6.4% of
useful capacity of a standard floppy disk (2544 sectors). Although it is clear
that everyone has their own concept of too large a size. On the other handOn the other hand, any size can be considered a disadvantage: in fact
in fact, wouldn't it be better if the program didn't
took up space? And if it takes, that means it’s already a disadvantage. :)
WB> (same turbo driver, initial splashscreen, removal
WB> files, frequency table flip, one-frame scroll,
WB> screensaver, preview, capture text from an arbitrary window)
WB> and support for formats that are practically not used.
It is clear that not all BestView features are needed by everyone
users (although if they are not needed now, they can
will be needed later). But to take away unnecessary opportunities from everyone
some, I don't want to. Yes, and it’s unlikely to remove the above
functions would greatly reduce the size of the program.
The ideal option, apparently, would be to create some kind of
installer, when running which the user could select
only the functions it needs, after which the installer generated
would be the BestView executable file, including only support for
selected functions. But I’m not interested in doing this.
The opening screensaver may be simplified and closer
to the way it was in the very first version.
WB> Also hampered by the size of help, which never
WB> has been optimized for brevity and compressed by Hrust 1.x,WB> which is not optimal for text.
Everyone has their own idea of brevity. Something
in the documentation for BestView, I myself thought about shortening it, but
Overall, in my opinion, it is written quite acceptable.
Regarding compression: thanks for pointing this out!
Indeed, I checked it now - HRUST 2.1 allows you to win
one sector for each of the four documentation files
to BestView 2.19, compared to HRUST 1.3.
WB> 3. small buffer for text, non-standard typeface
WB> font (due to the 4x6 mask) and the low text box that is connected

It is clear that 4x8 font is better than 4x6, and smooth scrolling
text is better than non-fluid one, and that one depends on the other. :) Here you go
I’m just not going to give up smooth scrolling. Not
It is impossible, however, that somehow it will be possible to combine the font
4x8, and smooth scrolling. Regarding the buffer size (25 KB) -
it does not depend at all on the scrolling method; also long
text files can be viewed in parts.
WB> 4. uncorrected pt3 player (player v3.67 recommended)
I always ensure that Pro Tracker 3 modules play correctly
paid attention - hence the fact that the frequency table is takendirectly from the module if it is compiled with the player, and
that the volume table is formed depending on the version
PT3, used when writing the module. In the next version
BestView will try to use the new pt3 player written by
Sergei Bulba, - this player was specially written so that
play modules exactly as they sound
in PT3 itself.
WB> and lack of support for common formats lc5.2, rip,
WB> rar.
Of course, it would be nice to support new formats.
WB> We assume that the reason for the above was
WB> lack of feedback from users.
Of course, there is feedback: about once a week
someone writes. And some of the above has already
reported, sometimes more than once. However, with the implementation
The proposals that come in are not so simple. I don't do it
whatever they ask for. But if someone offers me
I'm interested, if it's useful for me, then
it has a chance to be realized. Of course, there is enough
own ideas for the development of BestView, and they, of course, have
higher priority. :)
WB> This is also indicated by the fact that there are no links in the change history
WB> for users.
I just don't provide such links.WB> Please correct the situation, for which it is desirable:
WB> 1. organize a forum, mailing lists, correspondence with
WB> by users.
If the forum was so needed by users, it would have been created long ago
would have been created without my participation. :) Regarding mailings - already
For a long time there has been an e-mail newsletter with messages about the release of new
BestView versions. Well, correspondence with users is still going on.
WB> 2. fix more of the above, at least publishing
WB> another line of program compilations (if the author himself cannot

As for “fixing” - I have already stated above what I agree with,
and with what - no. And it’s up to me to publish “another line of compilations”
not interesting.
WB> 3. start distributing the source code of the program for study
WB> by its users and their creation of more specific ones

No, I don’t plan to disclose the source code.
WB> Please publish the author's home address/telephone
I also don’t want to disclose this personal information.
WB> and any other communication methods in addition to those already published.
And there seem to be no other ways.
[skip]WB> (Alone Coder's note: rename is required for deletion and is desirable
WB> move)
Of course. It is possible that there will be some more
functions for working with files. But this is all in the distant future.
Best regards, Ivan Roshchin.
