Hello, All!
Tell me, are there people here who can write under winnt (2k/xp)? Would you write
copier trd/hobeta/scl from/to trdos disks, otherwise it’s always such a hassle somewhere
transfer that just at least shoot.
Or has there been one for a long time and I just haven’t seen it?

Yes.

It's not that simple.
You can't go straight to the flop. Just write your own driver
ports - too, because they will fight on the flop. And dear
the flop driver should, in principle, support the operation
with any non-standard sectors, and WinAPI has
the corresponding arguments of the functions, but in itself this
piece of code is blocked (error?) - it accepts
custom argument but then parses the real one
format and if it is not equal to MSDOS, it exits by error.
Basically, there is an alternative flop driver, but it can
work only on English Windows 2000 without any
servicepacks. Therefore, writing a program for this matter is not effective.
You need to write your own normal flop driver.
In general, Windows and 98 have a lot of mysteries in their flop drivers.
For example, there are absolutely unnecessary delays. One acquaintance
I removed them and it worked much faster.

Are you ready to pay for a copier?
Or is it easier for you to transfer it using the available means?
Best regards, Evgeniy.

The fact is that it is simply impossible to write such a copier.
Windows does not natively support the Spectrum disk format. Driver
floppy disk does not have a built-in "media type" that allows
reading, writing and formatting a disk in Spectrum format.
[is it possible that I'm wrong? ]
There is a way out of this situation - driver modification, with
adding an additional format to the list, and modifying functions
disk recognition in the driver. Write a copier task yourself
trivial.
As for the driver: http://alter.org.ua/soft/win/floppy/index.php?lang=ru
This is not a complete solution for this case, it is just a reference to
source texts of the driver for Windows NT, which can be
modified as above.
I have neither time, at the moment, nor strength, nor, most importantly, desire
do this. I can only help in some particulars, answer
to answer any questions and provide the necessary documentation and tools
(only for St. Petersburg residents).

However, the ready-made driver does not work at all.
I tried to install it 2 years ago.
Probably the fact is that it either runs on English Windows,
or the service pack is interfering with it.

But if, say, you turn off the flop in Beavis, won’t it make you feel better? It's just me
I remembered that the hobeta, when cut in half, takes a terribly long time to loosen the disk, but if
comment on the native half-and-half flop driver, then it just flies.

It depends how much. And how long will it last (until the first next service pack
or until the death of this branch of Windows).
EP> Or is it easier for you to transfer using the available means?
I don't like reboots. Maybe the movie is slowing down at this moment or something else
long. And then it’s at home, if you go somewhere (like on tsts04), then who knows,
what is there (and there is one xp and trashy flops).
With best wishes, Vladimir.

The conclusion is that it is not necessary to adapt the PC to Spectrum
technology, but move in the opposite direction.

Let's look at things realistically. Pay for the opportunity to read
and write Spectrum discs for Windows, from your own pocket,
no one here is ready, and many, I think, cannot. In individual
There is no way this problem can be solved.
On the other hand, the problem is quite urgent - the most
the common operating system basically does not allow you to work
with Spectrum disks. I think this problem cannot but
worry a fairly large number of people one way or another included in
Spectrum community, and requires solutions *in* *any* *case*.
I propose to approach from the other side - what and who can offer
and for what money? Let's say I'm evaluating a proposed job:
modifying or creating a new floppy disk driver, writing
"console" versions of programs for reading, writing and formatting disks
(implies work, including, with disks other than TR-DOS
format, for example iS-DOS, CP/M, including unknown format),
as well as the creation of a library, a software interface that allows
use the specified capabilities from other programs, for example, emulator or "plug in" modules for FAR - I appreciate this work,
Let's say $200. This amount includes the creation of software,
project documentation, for the programmer, and documentation
user, program support for some time.
Copyright, in its entirety, belongs to the public, or everyone
from the group of persons financing the development, which in the future will in no way
does not interfere with the further development of the program. How far did I miss?
and in which direction?
I think that if there are at least 20 people who are ready
pay 500 rubles on the specified conditions, I think this is realistic.
Provided that the issue of payment is resolved in case of successful
completion of the project and a refund in case of failure. How is it
to carry out everything practically, neither legally nor in any other way, I have not yet
I can't imagine. This is probably the most difficult thing. Someone here must
take risks.
I’m probably ready, I’m still hesitating, to pay that amount for this.
Not for shareware - pay with the release of each new version of Windows, and
for a pig in a poke, I definitely don’t intend to - see the origin.

Why in Beavis, in my opinion it’s easier to /replace/ the standard driver.

It would be good...
