Press RESET immediately, All! What graphics tablet can I buy to make it work properly? in Linux? And most interestingly, in the form of what device, how it will work. For example, if with Gimp - how? And with others programs?

And with others KF> programs? I have one here - a composite one. It's called Genius Easy Pen. After installing the firewood (without it it really won’t plow) it is detected as a Tablet (not like a mouse). However, it completely emulates the mouse (I even used it as a joke for the sake of StarCraft Gamil) and plows under all the programs. As I understand it, what it sends to the port is somewhat different from what the mouse sends (the mouse relative coordinates, his y are absolute). So there’s no way without firewood. :) /That’s all, Kirill, you can scroll further.../

For operational purposes, the tablet looks like a mouse, those programs that are designed for working with the tablet can also be understood by its additional features, for example, the power press and tilt the stylus. Happy connections. Roman.

Yes, I'm telling you - the stylus has absolute coordinates. That is, where do you point it? on a tablet (and the tablet is about 4*3 inches), on the screen the pointer will be there. And the mouse will naturally crawl off the screen sooner or later. This is not the case with the stylus. will fail. If you pull it outside the tablet, the pointer on the screen will stop. /That’s all, Kirill, you can scroll further.../

However, it completely emulates the mouse (I even somehow AB> just for fun in StarCraft Gamil) and plows under all the programs. I bought it. Wacom Volito FT-0405. I feel like the menu has been deceived again. What I have: in Linux it is defined as a hid device and is emulated with the mouse. In Windows it’s the same (no need for any firewood!) Next, In Windows you can install some software. After installation a curve appears in computer settings (even the name - and even then written) program to disable/enable absolute/relative coordinates, acceleration and function selection a single button (located on the “pencil”). What immediately catches your eye is that it (in any OS)when moving up and to the left, it travels 1.5 times more on the screen, distance, when moving in space the same distance, than when moving down and to the right. THIS IS TERRIBLE! Almost nothing to write, It's impossible to draw. The circle turns into a spiral! Advertised function - "tracing" - the ability to trace what is placed under Of course, drawing on film doesn’t work. It's all relative coordinates when emulating a mouse. In absolute coordinates the situation is better - position on the screen exactly in accordance with the frame drawn on the tablet. HO HI IT IS STILL IMPOSSIBLE TO DRAW OR WRITE! Why? It gives out coordinates are no faster than a comport mouse! That is, a couple of points to a handwritten letter. And at the same time it slows down wildly, ~200ms at the beginning each new curve (letter), apparently trying to approximate it suitable curve. That is, despite all the assurances of advertising -- you can forget about handwritten text, unless you write very slowly and in big letters, because dots per inch is also not enough absolutely. It is also almost impossible to draw, and for the same reason reason - any line with variable pressure looks like a broken line rectangle (the curves are smoothed out, and the amount of pressure and, therefore, the diameter of the brush is not). This is me talking about Paint included in the kit. A couple of programs are also included.for mocking photographs. Why is there a tablet there? Only if instead of a mouse... In the Windows version of Gimp it's even worse - any line or is divided into many points far apart from each other, or all the shortcomings (see above) of mouse emulation are visible. Handwritten text not visible at all, anyway. And it doesn’t “plow under all the programs.” In absolute coordinates for some programs cannot work with menus. You need to click very briefly so that the menu does not close as soon as it has had time to be displayed. B In particular, Gimp suffers from this. Windows is over, let's move on to Linux. They write that if upgrade XFree, then for some reason replace the standard hid.o usbmouse.o, and wacom.o, and also wacom_dev.o for xfree, taken from the site, they say I’ll be happy, and after another week of fucking I’ll be able to draw in Gimp. Yes, it will take more than a week to rebuild xfree... And It is still unknown what will come of this. I'm not a Linux Kernel developer, and all sorts of reassemblies for me, how to put it mildly, wild hemorrhoids... Now, the mouse is emulated just as badly as in Windows is clearly not a software problem. :-( AB> As I understand it, what it sends to the port is somewhat different from what the mouse sends (y mouse AB> are relative coordinates, y are absolute). So there’s no way without firewood. AB> :)Linux creates two ports: event and mouse. In the second - emulation ps/2 mice. But the first one doesn’t work without shamanism. The conclusions are sad. Wacom is making complete bullshit. Although formally it seems to fulfill its functions, practically - this is some kind of deception. My *scrolling* Genius mouse is capable of more precise and faster movements. And this is one of the best (others in Linux do not support it at all). Maybe this is a problem with Volito, and let's say, Intuos, problems with unevenness no movement? Or by buying a large (A4, this A6) tablet for three times the amount will I receive the same obscenity? :-( Good tablets (in my opinion - on which you can write hands, as on paper), do they even exist within $100? :-(

It turned out to be not so scary with Linux - a driver was found and after a miniature patch it even started working! As a result, I have cursor, stylus and eraser, and the last two seem to be don't work. Perhaps I missed something. The first one works like a mouse. I must say, it works much better in Linux! Here I take it CD, put it on the tablet, and using the disk as a stencil I draw circle Actually a circle, or close to it, is a completely different matter! And the sensitivity is completely different - you can enter handwritten text! But why is it so bad (jerky like a port mouse) in Windows? Maybe something needs to be disabled? In Linux it is necessary for the tablet to be perceivedwith its driver, and not as a hid mouse. Maybe it's the same in Windows situation? Or maybe USB is slow?

It was enough to replace the standard wacom nuclear driver and update XFree. Also, the order in which the hid modules are loaded is important. usbmouse and mousedev. Everything according to the FAQ. The circle is now similar to a circle, nothing moves, there are no broken lines and handwritten text is written perfectly in gsumi and Gimp. The tablet itself works simultaneously as a mouse (cursor in terminology xinput) and as a “pencil” (stylus). :-) It's a pity there aren't enough buttons. In XFig everything is controlled by three buttons, How can I get by with two... To summarize: a graphics tablet for Linux is available and it can be watcom. Of the rest of the commercially available Linux support for none except for wacom it is not declared at all (unofficial - including). Online There are reports that some Genius products work in emulation mode mice. If they work in this mode as poorly as wacom - It's better not to get involved.

For the Wacom tablet, you install your own driver, it even loads a small window shows. Right now I've been going to Device Manager: in "Mice and other pointing devices" Only "HID-compliant mouse" sits, this must be understood, my Logitech MX1000, in "Human Interface Devices" are HID-compliant device, USB Human Interface Device, USB Human Interface Device, probably one of them matches tablet.
