Microsoft will continue to support Windows 98 for the sake of
developing countries
Updated 01/13/2004 at 16:33:16
Microsoft made an official announcement on Tuesday
statement that it will continue to support users
operating systems Windows 98 and Windows 98 SE, reports
Reuters. This means that it will continue as a major release
software product, as well as all kinds of “patches” for it.
It was initially assumed that the production of all versions of the OS
before Windows 2000 will be stopped in 2004. First January 16
the company would say goodbye to Windows 98 and Windows 98 SE, and 31
December - with Windows Millennium Edition (Me). Now these terms
postponed until June 30, 2006.
Microsoft explained its change of course with a desire to help developing
countries. This is where the company was most often accused of
it forces users to constantly update their software
software, buying more and more expensive versions.
In addition, many countries have begun to switch to free
open source Linux system. This forced
the company also open some codes, reduce prices for large
clients and continue to look for other options.
However, Windows 98 and Windows 95 are still installed on 20
percentage of all computers that use the OSthis family, so Microsoft was forced to abandon
their radical plans. Freed up time for Bill's employees
Gates will be spent on promoting his new products on specific
markets.
