And in Minsk they started a rumor that the demo component was the first

Hello All!
Well, I actually came from the Construction of Chaos'999 to
St. Petersburg and am going to share my impressions. Of course it was difficult
expect normal organization of the Russian competition - without
there were some bummers and troubles, but overall the event was clearly
succeeded. But first things first.
Arriving about an hour before partyplace (5 minutes late)
min), and it was an ordinary school (externally the building is the same as
and my old 189, but inside it’s a little different), in short II found a crowd of demomakers at the door - no one was allowed in yet.
The people came from different places: from regions of Russia, Ukraine,
Moldova, Poland, Israel. Half an hour later they finally let us in
and started issuing tickets. There weren't very many people (120-140
people), and there seemed to be enough places. By the way, I had to pay for the ticket.
only 50 rub. in two days - much less than expected.
Then the main organizer appeared - Random (Vsevolod
Potapov), who flew from Australia to organize
competition. He said that the first day of the party will be dedicated to
Spectrum and the second - PC and Amiga, and that the components will start around
in an hour, but in the meantime you can register and check your work.
It became clear that the published rules have very
superficial attitude towards what will actually happen
happen. This did not bode well.
To my great surprise, I found 2 more people. from
Minsk (according to the list of reserved tickets I was
the only visitor from Belarus) were Paul Pavlov
(who turned out to be the most sociable of the visitors) and Wolf
(looking ahead, it would be better if it didn’t exist at all!).
And then the competitions began: they started with graphics, then AY-music,
intros (512b, 4k, 16k) and demo. The schedule was very difficult for me
evaluate because I'm new to Speccy. The music was different
some works left one's ears withered, others left a very pleasantimpression. First place was taken by the work
registered at the very last moment. There were intros
interesting, especially 4k (C2H5OH) and 16k (this nomination was outside
competition, but there was an amazing intro in verse!), and my
the estimates almost completely coincided with the result. Demos were also on
high level - I never expected to see THIS on the ZX, if not
lousy graphical capabilities would generally rulez.
Some of the work was even repeated later. I'll need a thread somewhere
get it and run it on the emulator... In other words, my opinion
about ZX has changed significantly. Won first place (absolutely)
deservedly) demo from ANTARES Soft., and the second - Digital Reality.
To the question why DR takes 2nd place for life, Arty answered
very “modest”: “DR is an order of magnitude ahead of everyone, that’s why
Most viewers don't have time to appreciate our demos." Like this
here :-))) This is where the official part of the first day ended -
the start is very good.
The people dispersed: some went home, others went to friends, but
I and many out-of-towners stayed overnight at the school. Here I
my sleeping bag came in handy. It was actually quite uncomfortable to sleep:
Spectrum fans were copying their works until 5 am,
the organizers were busy with their PCs and Amigas, the people were quite happy
spoke loudly, and then it’s still unclear how he clearly appeared
drunk Wolf. However, by 3 o’clock the people calmed down and went to bed.In the morning it turned out that, firstly, some assholes had
excursion through the window and on the way back the glass was broken, and even
under the alarm, and secondly Random went to the disco and didn’t
came back... However, then he finally appeared and walked around awesome
angry (like the Monster and other organizers), he wanted to
cancel the second day, but in the end the decision was made
collect an additional 10 rubles from all participants. Overall
the organizers themselves were largely to blame for what happened, but this
that's another story.
So, the second day of the party will take place, the school is gathering again
crowd (the organizers kicked everyone out in order to conduct the preselection
works). True, the composition of the people has changed somewhat: there are fewer
spektrumistov, more PC'shnikov. As usual, after a solid
The delays have finally started.
Hand-drawn graphics - almost all works are great. Interesting
feature: first place in this compo (as well as first place on
ZX) was drawn on a glitchy monitor.
Rendered graphics - two works out of 13 caused widespread
Wow! Against their background, my work looked a bit boring...
ANSI was combined with ASCII due to the small number of works,
It turned out to be a strange mixture, but overall it was okay.
Then the organizers noticed that Gus did not want to lose them
XM, and decided to first convert everything to WAV.
There was a long pause, during which the bestAmiga demos - quite interesting, but people were reluctant to wait, there was a storm
PC people were delighted by two moments: when the Amiga demo
started to slow down, and when WorkBench (under AmigaOS) crashed.
However, when the music started playing, someone began to draw in
Count screensaver editor with job numbers (and indeed on Amiga
graphic editors are much cooler than PhotoShop :-(.
Somewhere during the break, the leader of the group KHRG (Hellraiser) made a speech
Group) - the same one who remixed Titanic on the button accordion
(there was an MP3 here somewhere), by the way, they have this thing there too
performed :-) The essence of his speech boiled down to what needs to be done
something completely original, because... old groups are squeezed within the framework
their own ideas about the demoscene, which have long been
irrelevant. However, he doesn’t know what exactly needs to be done.
Multichannel music - the music was high quality and good.
4ch. music (MOD) - this is just a failure, people are relieved
sighed after finishing each composition. And where are they?
dug up the music...
I couldn't stay any longer, because... already bought a return one
train ticket. I had to leave the event early and didn’t
after seeing the demo itself. If I had taken a ticket a day later,
then of course it would have been much more interesting, but even so I got a lot
pleasure.
If DEMO.DESIGN.* walk normally, then soon we can
will get intros and demos from the party and find out the results. However, the results can be found out even earlier, but judging by
The reaction of the audience does not mean that something serious is going to happen to my work. We'll wait
we'll see...
PS: It turned out that I spent noticeably less money than
I assumed - everything except train tickets cost $5
PPS: But I didn’t really see the city itself - it wasn’t there at all
time :-(((Well, we’ll have to get out somehow :-)
In this regard, CC is good, because in the summer. And then there's Finland
It’s not far, which means Assembly!
