Hello everyone!
I conducted a series of experiments on Spec and PC and I had a question. Why on
The subject is not popular with the Spectrum? True, there can be only four gradations of brightness,
but compared to tricolors we have two advantages:
1. Less flickering (50/2 Hz vs. 50/3 Hz)
2. The information content of such a picture is higher, that is, you can take photos of tolerable quality
look on Spec.
How can you get 4 gradations? On one screen we have black (h) and bright
white color (b), and on the second screen we have black (h) and dark white color or
otherwise gray (c). With a quick (once per interruption) change of personnel, we have 4 gradations:
1 screen h h b b
2 screen h s h s

Brightness 0 1 2 3 О - the darkest "color", 3 - the brightest color.
Vertical stripes on Spec in four gradations look quite decent,
Four color b/w photos on the PC too. I wanted to write a program today
Spec for converting the corresponding images from the PC to Spec, but there is no time
enough...
Or maybe you can get more gradations if you change three screens? Although it's unlikely
whether...

four gradations, but only three! That is, details highlighted in colors 1 and 2
will merge. And why does anyone need such a grayscale?

If you need to get four gradations, and what you propose assumes how
If there are four gradations, one brightness, then you can use three screens:
0=black
1=white (or other color)
1 screen: 0111
2nd screen: 0011
3rd screen: 0001
Gradations 0123
However, in this case everything will flicker more strongly, that is, the same tricolor only
b/w...

maybe you misunderstood... but
why not like yours:
1 screen: 0101 blue
2 screen: 0011 cyan

Experimented with flowers. The most acceptable quality is obtained if
instead of bright white use Magenta-Bright_Off, and instead of white with
With the brightness turned off, use Red-Bright_Off. The shades of "gray" become
indeed smoother and the flickering is less noticeable, but the picture becomes
red with something else...

I remember reading somewhere that to look at these pictures better, you need to make them smaller
monitor brightness as low as possible, but to still see the image. put on
sunglasses. and turn off the lights in an unlit room.
ps. at the same time, even 3-color pictures become almost flicker-free.

Well, there is another option - you can assemble a gigaskrin and then you can watch them
almost like doublescreen. but this is in theory, in practice - it doesn’t seem to work.
