face digitize

Press RESET immediately, All! How can an image (photograph) of a human face be converted into "digital" form. As a result, I want to get a picture made up of the ASCII character set. I tried aalib with its aaview - it doesn’t work out well (and how can I watch movies on this not I understand, it’s not clear at all where and what).
