In the teacher's Yamaha, the upper drive has disk id 0, and the lower drive has 1. Therefore
the bottom one can be replaced with absolutely any 3.5" 1.44 drive, and the top one can be replaced with one
which has jumpers for setting disk id - there are plenty of them.
Another option is to make your own cable for the top drive so that disk id 1
was perceived by the controller as disk id 0. To do this, you need to change a couple of wires

In my yama the upper disk was dead, I replaced it with the lower one, and in the bottom as
"B:" (disk id 1) installed a 3.5" 1.44 drive. Everything works great.
When I was doing all these things, I used like real 720K
floppy disks, and 1.44M with a sealed hole.
