Video player with FLASH CARD 4 ZX Spectrum

ZXNet echo conference «hardware.zx»

From Andrey Savichev To All 28 December 2006

Hello, All This project is in no way connected with the "Society of Spectrum Lovers" We are talking about a separate module with a hardware video decoder and analog output, controller that generates the stream and flash card.

From Pavel Fedin To All 28 December 2006

Hello andrews and> you can communicate with the ZX Spectrum via COM...and the module will be possible and> can be used independently, or together, as you like And then you don’t need to do anything at all. Take a PDA running Windows CE, or even a regular PC laptop and communicate with ZX via COM. Or you can use it autonomously. :)

From Pavel Fedin To All 28 December 2006

Hello andrews and> again we didn’t understand... the video stream is generated for the mpeg hardware decoder and> local small processor, for example ARM 7, it also loads the file from and> !local! SD disk (and understands the file system)...and z80 and> how the client sends files of the current directory upon requests...that z80 and> can't accept 2K ASCII? Why then do we need ZX? It is quite possible to install eCos on ARM7, as well as GPS and so on.

From Dolbnin Dmitry To All 28 December 2006

Hello andrews and> again we didn’t understand... the video stream is generated for the mpeg hardware decoder and> local small processor, for example ARM 7, it also loads the file from and> !local! SD disk (and understands the file system)... IMHO, such a perversion is useless as a separate device planned for Speck. This is very similar to yet another garden planting. Where to stick - main question? It seems to me that it is more logical to join Romanych and CHRV in development far away video axel and play it as an optional add-on to this card, because parity of opportunities will remain. Hardware manufacturers anyway there is so little left and the joining of efforts by hardware manufacturers is very reasonable approach. PS This is just my IMHO.

From Andrey Savichev To All 28 December 2006

Hello andrews Minor correction, the processor is not ARM7, but ARM9 if you take NEC's MP201 chip.

From Andrey Savichev To All 28 December 2006

Hello Sonic It differs in that the open architecture - one, has a composite output - two... and whoever is not interested in doing it, doesn’t do it or three :)

From Andrey Savichev To All 28 December 2006

Hello Sonic Son> Why then do we need ZX? Son> On ARM7 it is quite possible to install eCos, GPS, etc. install, who doesn’t let you...you can communicate with the ZX Spectrum via COM...a module can be used autonomously, or together, as you like

From Andrey Savichev To All 28 December 2006

Hello Sonic Son> 1) The CPU will not have time - it will download too much. At least 3.5 MHz. Son> 2) In the case of video, this is of course not applicable, but audio is the same way Son> you can play completely in the background, while, say, working in XAS. again we didn’t understand... the video stream for the mpeg hardware decoder is generated locally small processor, for example ARM 7, it also downloads the file from !local! SD disk (and understands the file system)...and the z80 sends it to the client based on requests files of the current directory...that the z80 cannot accept 2K ASCII? ARM7+all hardware=application server zx spectrum (z80) = thin client analog video output is generated on the card itself if necessary, muxed with output from zx spectrum

From Alexey Goncharov To All 28 December 2006

Hello andrews It’s a good all-in-one thing, but we can’t get it here, at least not right away found it. And how many legs does he have? what body? and in general how and how many layers Solder the board? =)

From Alexey Goncharov To All 28 December 2006

Hello andrews heroy, well, yes, I didn’t think about MIPS vs MHz =) Andrews, we probably got the idea. It’s just not clear why here client-server, and especially with some thread *z*80. ARM can handle everything. A it is simply unprofitable to pack a bunch of iron. There is really only one way out - a single-chip spec that acts as a push-button controller (or is it enough for video? instead of counters? =)), but IMHO 1) this is the maximum that can be thought of for him. 2) it’s possible without it and 3) it still requires a rather large matrix - $$$.

From Raydac To All 28 December 2006

Hello andrews > there is a desire to connect to the Spectrum as an external device via that > the reason that nothing else is analogous yet, which is all > could be convinced at CC'2006 very specifically... So what? by connecting this crap to the spec you can show video on SS 2007 and say “look at the chip NEC sculpted, everything is hardware, the spec gives the command start and stop, as well as pause... that's some awesome software decision," and from the audience shouts of "NEC's first place!" .. you would still figure it out first of all, what is Spectrum within the framework of today and to whom and why is it interesting, there are more video players on the market than there are stars in the sky and their cost junk... be it pocket or stationary... during development they were still will become cheaper..

From Raydac To All 28 December 2006

Hello andrews What use cases are planned for the player? maybe there are some unique ones? IMHO on The main advantage of the Spectrum over the pussy is that everything is tied to the CPU and goes a struggle between software solutions, and not “who can turn the steepest stone” (as in pussy, There is no point in going anywhere with a soldering iron, and the software is not allowed everywhere).. so I can’t figure out the meaning of the video player on the spec implemented as external “stone” in relation to the CPU... it’s somehow impossible to explain a win in relation to pocket DVD players... maybe I'm missing something?

From Andrey Savichev To All 28 December 2006

Hello NovaStorm Just fresh (July 2006). You'll have to shake the Eltech to get the evalution board I’ll get it, I’ll promise to write an article, maybe they’ll give it to me. And according to the links there it looks like Linux in development tools from Trolltech.

From Andrey Savichev To All 28 December 2006

Hello Raydac Why do you think NEC created this chip? it's obvious there advantages...look, it really has everything, even support SD cards... I want to connect to the Spectrum as an external device for the reason that there is nothing else analogous yet, as everyone could see at CC'2006 very specific...

From Andrey Savichev To All 28 December 2006

Hello andrews and> how and how many layers of board to solder it on? =) there would be something to solder... for now just download Trollitekh's software and master it

From Andrey Savichev To All 28 December 2006

Hello ASDT They were arguing from the wrong side...ARM9 will certainly do without the Z80. But here I have typical z80 program, I formed a certain sequence and stuck it in some kind of algorithm...I don’t care who calculates it...but I came up with everything in my own poor way an ultra-economical screen allows for a new arrangement of stars or a 3D scene. Tomorrow ARM100 appeared, I threw the previous one to hell, but there is no need to rewrite the software and even no need to recompile :) this is Packard's Hewlett concept

From Andrey Savichev To All 28 December 2006

Hello Raydac You can think differently in writing. Physical processors, etc. Nothing, sir, they’re eating, sir. Asymmetrical architecture was invented a long time ago by HP and that's what you and I tried to do it in Tornado.

From ASDT To All 28 December 2006

Hello andrews "There have been discussions about multiprocessing more than once, it seems that they decided that the coprocessor is in tens, or even hundreds of times more powerful than a CPU is not good =)" Most likely, the AWP spec is no longer needed...

From ASDT To All 29 December 2006

Hello andrews "Personally, it was only in the mid-90s that I considered connecting the 8087 to the Z80, but then I repented because I realized that it was nonsense.." Can you be more specific? Can strengthen the math part...

From Raydac To All 29 December 2006

Hello andrews and> Instead of puffing zx on decoding a compressed video stream and> isn't it better to give the sopra as we wanted in zx tornado...and now and> arma at the same price as then aveerki The coprocessor on the Spectrum is a 10,000% dead end.. The company practically went for it Peters, who made an analogue of the elephant with butterfly wings so beloved by you... NO SPECIALIZED CO-PROCESSOR should be allowed on Spec !!!!!!!!!!!! Be it video, audio, or game... Personally, I’m only in in the mid-90s I considered connecting the 8087 to the Z80, but then repented because I realized that it was nonsense..

From Raydac To All 29 December 2006

Hello andrews and> You can think differently in writing. Physical processors, etc. and> Nothing, sir, they’re eating, sir. Asymmetrical architecture was invented a long time ago and> HP and that's what you and I tried to do in Tornado. Let's just say that the main advantage of Speck is that it is accessible to the developer in the best sense of the word, in that there is no uncle who says “here I am I put special chip for that, but here is a special one. chip for this and I write drivers myself - buy a new version." Speck is like an old car, it still has the level that available for modernization and modification by a private person, as I told Slava Mednonogov "PiC is flawed if only because it is potentially impossible to Slava Mednonogova"... so try to make a clone of PiSishka or a video player or imitating them is of course honorable, but delusional, since they will throw stones here, they'll look at you like an idiot there, and after a while you'll say, "not Am I a fool..."... so if you reinvent the wheel, it's the one you ride on will be or will be admired, and not the one about which you can say “here’s another one bicycle... it's cool because it has no wheels and is carried on the back"

From Andrey Savichev To All 29 December 2006

Hello ASDT Igor, should I publish the documents you sent me... they’re in my archives lie...what the hell is 8087...at90s1200...and I’m not suggesting a stupid resistor...server applications are completely different

From Andrey Savichev To All 29 December 2006

Hello Raydac Standardize client requests (ZX Spectrum) to the application server and let only your uncle will try to dictate his terms to you... another uncle will immediately appear more accommodating... and the client himself is completely in your hands, as before.

From Andrey Savichev To All 29 December 2006

Hello andrews Instead of puffing zx on decoding a compressed video stream, wouldn’t it be better this is to give the sopra as we wanted in the zx tornado... and now the armies are at the same price as then aveerki

From Andrey Savichev To All 29 December 2006

Hello, andrews koroče z80+arm7(9,...)

From Andrey Savichev To All 29 December 2006

Hello andrews I won’t say that 4 z80 is a gain of less than 4 times :D

From Raydac To All 29 December 2006

Hello ASDT ASD> "Personally, it was only in the mid-90s that I considered connecting to the 8087 ASD> to Z80, but then I repented because I realized that it was nonsense.." ASD> ASD> Can you be more specific? ASD> Can strengthen the math part... Strengthening the swearing part is not a problem, the problem is that it is pointless, since it is not meets the requirements of the platform and its concept.. It will be like executive car with its aerodynamics put turbocharged engine from formula one and demand that this car win grand prix..

From Raydac To All 29 December 2006

Hello NovaStorm Nov> So, for thought - the HP iPAQ rx1950 on HPC.ru (hucksters!) costs $239. By Nov> capabilities approximately correspond to the requirements of the topic. You can Nov> do it at least for the same price? No, he can’t, and if he says he can, he won’t take into account what it requires mass production, investments in which can only be provided by the state, if Andryusha persuades them to invest 30% of the stabilization fund in this business :)

From Alexey Goncharov To All 29 December 2006

Hello andrews So, for thought - the HP iPAQ rx1950 on HPC.ru (hucksters!) costs $239. By capabilities approximately corresponds to the requirements of the topic. Can you at least do at the same price?

From Andrey Savichev To All 29 December 2006

Hello NovaStorm The price for MP201 in small quantities in Russia has not yet been established, since it is still did not go on sale. Expect portable QVGA late next year video players, because once there is a chip, there will be mass production on it. But this I explained elsewhere that handhelds are a separate matter, they are programmed completely differently and are bought by completely different people and for others goals. They cannot be connected to LCD TVs, although they may appear in the future and such models.

From Raydac To All 29 December 2006

Hello andrews and> the presence of a huge number of clones is evidence that there is one and> concepts and requirements have never existed in the past and will never exist in and> future...and this is probably even for the better, because... almost 25 years active and> lives are worth something! If there weren't a concept, there wouldn't be a computer... There was a Spectrum after all business project in the 80s, and there are no business projects without goals... there are a lot of clones they did, but practically no one supported them... local support is not in score, the release of two or three games as a clone is not a success, but... a misunderstanding rather..

From Andrey Savichev To All 29 December 2006

Hello NovaStorm Nov> So, for thought - the HP iPAQ rx1950 on HPC.ru (hucksters!) costs $239. By Nov> capabilities approximately correspond to the requirements of the topic. You can Nov> do it at least for the same price? send the technical specifications, I’ll think about it...if you need several pieces (3-10), then maybe. and I can...small-scale production will have to be organized by you yourself, from me no capital for this

From Andrey Savichev To All 29 December 2006

Hello Raydac Ray> does not meet the requirements of the platform and its concept.. the presence of a huge number of clones is evidence that a single concept and requirements have never been in the past and will never be in the future...and that's even probably for the better, because... Almost 25 years of active life are worth something!
